So if you've seen my first post (if not Click here) on the forums then you know I have a slightly bent front rim. I'm going to be getting the rim repaired locally, but they only want the wheel and not the whole bike. At this point I do not have stands or the sliders to lift the bike by. Do any of you have any suggestions as to what I could do to lift the bike up?

This was actually an idea that myself and my brother were thinking of and it may be what we end up doing. Also mentioned the other suggestions to him as well. (He's a mechanic and is very smart when it comes to fixing things)

I would post up on your local forums to see if you can borrow someones front stand. I have helped dozens of guys locally with that kind of stuff and most riders consider it good karma to help a rider in need. I would try that before you go all Macgyver on it. :)

FYI, you can pick up a stand on Amazon for cheap too using prime 2-day shipping if there isn't a cycle gear near you. There are usually stands all over Craigslist as well.

Edit: if you are only lifting the front of the bike, every method aside from the rafters method will result in an extremely unstable bike. If you're lifting the front, you must also use a stand to lift the rear.

Yeah I currently have it hanging from the rafters using winch straps and have a 2 by 4 under the manifold held in place by a car jack. Stands are on the to-do list. Still need to find a place to repair the rim. The place I brought it told me they could do it, then a week later said they couldn't. Aggravating
