Sounds like a major issue is developing! Hoping it is only select VIN numbers...

I'll contact my dealer today; I'll let you know what I was told.
I'm in Europe (Poland) but I'm assuming there's no major differences between the models, right? I mean, it is the same bike, no?
Also, does anyone have legal expertise with these things? I've read horror stories about KTM owners and how the dealerships just left people stranded...

^^^You could be okay, then again you never know..I'd error on the side of caution maybe do a little more research and don't ride it until you get 100% facts. Hopefully the bike isn't your main vehicle that you rely on for transportation.

At least they're recalling them and attempting to do something in the US this time. They didn't bother to recall the 06 10r's they produced with the thin ass valve retainers that will shatter lol.

I was checking my VIN on the safety recall website and I got nothing...

The bike is a toy and I don't need it as transport, but I was really looking forward to riding this Summer.
First world problems, I know, I know, but still...

I guess we'll all learn more in the next few days (??)

Keep sharing your experience guys, so we don't cry alone 🙃

Does no good to check vins yet because no recalls are out yet people. Also calling dealerships they are not going know anything much more than that letter to stop order says. Can take few weeks before recalls start coming out. Keep riding the bikes if you have a 24/25 until you get that letter say to stop riding the bike or until you get a notice of a recall to come in to fix the bike.

Hi Guys - i just bought this bike, paid cash yesterday and was going to pick up today and they wont release it. So just waiting for it fully paid. sucks but rather not lose engine power on a drive. Hopefully this fix is fast... the bike is such a big seller for them that it has to be priority... too much money at stake and legal issues.

Hopefully this fix is fast...
IF what I've been reading is true, it doesn't seem like an easy fix, as they'll have to either replace entire engines (unlikely, as there's just too many bikes) OR open the engines up to change the faulty part - that will take forever.

I'm really curious to see how this develops and I hope Kawi does the right thing here, whatever the issue might be...

Went to the dealership yesterday (6/5) to grab the 2025 zx6r krt abs. Went through all the pre qualification and got approved all that. Then the salesman says “So unfortunately we have to stop here we got a Stop Sale Order from Kawasaki this morning.” I asked what the next steps were and he said “Kawasaki has to run the vin to make sure this model isn’t affected, if it is we’ll have to wait until new stock comes in, if it isn’t we just have to wait for the green light from kawi.”

So I was told.............

16 engine failures, all 16 were the #1 or #5 main bearing/crank journal. chicken or the egg- which came first....... so doesn't seem like a high percentage out of the many thousands made and sold

turns out- the plain bearings in those journals with no oil groove suck........ speak of,outsourced, but no confirmation (but it would not surprise me if they are chineseum trash under the guise of trying to save a few pennies....... bean counters are the enemy of every production company!)

I could simply order one and see what it says on the packaging but at $29 per half now.................. hard pass............ (just to put in new crank bearings (10) it is going to cost $300 now. wtf....)

you want to freshen up your race engine..............

crank bearings $29 per half, so there is $290
rod bearings are still $14 a half, so $112 there
wrist pins have skyrocketed to $33 each...... so another $132
ring sets $55 each, so another $220
rod bolt and nut $9 x4, another $36
shift forks @ $100 each, so $300 there
the shift drum another $200
oil pump rotors another $75
retaining washers for the valve collets/vale another $36
those collets themself another $160
god forbid you need the valves @ $45 and $72 each
guide seals at $8 a pop x16 another $128
all of the gaskets and oil seals........... another $650ish
You need a few transmission gears........ there goes $140 to $170 a pop
don't even get started on the mandatory transmission shims and retainers...... lets just say they are $4 to $10 each x 10 of them, so another $60
The gear bushings. another huge wear part, another $12-$17 each

So even the most benign of re-fresh is now going to be north of $1900 in parts without any shift forks, transmission gears or a shift drum etc...........

it wasn't all that long ago I was doing these and the same list was about $650-$750, less than a decade ago! and around 2010 it was about $450-$500 for that list..........

So anyone worth anything is going to have to charge north of $3500 for sure, just for the most benign of refresh....... I think the used "good enough til it blows" engine market is going to explode and end up with engine prices right up around $2500 each or higher..........
Which also means bike thefts are going to skyrocket again, just for the engines, wheels, forks and bodywork- the blow em up and crash up popular parts........

Got the 25 ZX6R. Bought it back in march of 25. Got almost 3,000 miles on it already. Haven’t felt any changes in how it’s been running. Neither have I locked up the engine. Also not sure as to how long it’ll take for it to go out with this part problem. Guess it’s always safe to be on the side of caution.

Could someone smarter than me just explain the difference (if in fact there's any) between "USA bikes" VS the bikes from, say, Canada or Europe?

I keep seeing people claiming that this might be an issue with USA production bikes only and other folks stating that - given the bike was made Euro 5 compliant - they are one and the same and therefore geography means nothing.

Thoughts? 🤔

EMISSIONS!!!!!!!!

THE EPA IS THE ENEMY OF ALL COMBUSTION ENGINES!!!!!!!!!

Yeah my dealership HAD NO IDEA 🙉 on my 24 zx6r. UNTIL I CALLED THEM. But they said they will take care of me once they know what the issues are. I bet they will..... take kawasaki's money and say it's fixed it. This will be an issue and a problem for people for years to come. Be smart with it guys ✌

Funny situation today. I went for my 600 mile (680 now) mandatory service and the dealer service guy suggested me to wait for the recall to happen, so oil change would be free… I mean, makes sense, but, when I this going to happen anyways? So far there’s nothing official.
I ended up not requesting the service… saves some bucks I guess…. thought I could just use the bike as is a little longer (I don’t ride it that much, maybe keep it just in the city) but I feel like it was not the best move… should I pursue the first service? Or wait for the recall? What would you guys do? Are you guys not riding yours at all? Eff that!
Ride at your own peril I guess........

I would of for sure had changed the oil filter before now though.......... Not because the oil is broken down from the additives package but because of the amount of machining material that is in the engine from the building and machining of the parts.
I ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWYAS make the first oil change on any fresh engine happen within the first 25 miles, then do another around 300 miles and when dissecting the filters there is always glittery yuk and when letting the oil sit overnight in the pan then draining it down to a shot glass full you can see all the glitter in the pan!

Just ride the bike. No recall letters have been sent out yet and that no one knows for sure how long it can take. Around 17,000 bikes are being recall but out of those only 1% are actually effective with the issue. If by a small chance something does happen to your bike Kawasaki will still fix it under the warranty they can't denied it and they can't enforce you not to ride the bike.

I bet. That’s what I had in mind too. I’m thinking on either going back there for service or doing it myself just to preserve the engine - but if I do it myself it wouldn’t count for warranty schedule.
nowhere are you required to go to the dealer to keep your warranty intact.

but it is easier on you to "prove" proper service intervals when the dealer has the record too.

but you certainly an do your own oil change, double triple check the steering head bearings and adjust the drivechain and cables etc and just keep some written records and a receipt of the oil/filter purchased for ease in case you need them for warranty........

I put a deposit down on a Zx6r abs the day before the stop-sale and wasn’t able to pick it up the next day sadly. Does anyone have an idea on when I can hope to get the bike? Or how long these things generally take? The dealer won’t tell me anything. I know its a first world problem and I’m just being impatient but I’ve been saving up for a long time lol
