Update for Germany

We have some news for Germany. Kawasaki has announced a recall (as of June 25, 2025). However, it's still unclear when it will start and what exactly it will involve. They say more information will be available "soon".

It could be something minor, like a measurement or inspection. But it could also be something major—like disassembling the engine or even replacing the entire engine. Right now, nothing is confirmed.

My ZX has been at the dealership since Tuesday. I can visit her, but we haven’t made the final payment yet, because I can only cancel the purchase as long as it hasn’t been officially registered in my name.

Guys, I could cry. I’ve seen her, sat on her, and even gently stroked her, hoping she's a healthy bike. I know—I sound totally crazy.

Yeah, no one knows yet. Everyone is scrambling to try and find out if other markets are/will be affected... No one can tell for sure. No one seems 💯 sure if US bound motorcycles were assembled in a different facility compared to the rest of the world either.
So far, what we all know, is the cause of the issue. That's about it.

Don't know if you all received the letter yet. I received mine last week.
Basically says to not ride it until further notice. They also say they don't know when/how they will fix it and that I should wait until I receive a second letter with instructions on how to proceed with the recall service. Mine is parked since Saturday. Interesting fact is that it doesn't show as my bike is being recalled in Kawasaki website.
I might call them and see what the heck is going on and what they plan to do about it.

nowhere are you required to go to the dealer to keep your warranty intact.

but it is easier on you to "prove" proper service intervals when the dealer has the record too.

but you certainly an do your own oil change, double triple check the steering head bearings and adjust the drivechain and cables etc and just keep some written records and a receipt of the oil/filter purchased for ease in case you need them for warranty........
thanks for the info.. that's exactly what I did... I took it for service in a shop nearby, got all the receipts and service bill/description.

Wonder who messed up at the factory calibrating the robots?

I just got my recall letter. I’m in Northern CA. This sucks. My 6R is my commute vehicle. Back to 10 miles to the gallon lol.

I called Kawasaki. The person I talked with always said “I feel”, and provided no actual data. I was told they are not offering loaners, they are not offering any sort of trade in assistance for another Kawasaki, and they don’t know when it will be fixed, but they have high hopes it will be soon.
.
Not super happy. Hope the fix comes soon.

Man, for dealers to do all the work, open countless engines apart - provided Kawasaki already found a straightforward way to fix the issue, that is...
I really want to be wrong, but I just don't see how this will be an easy fix done in a jiffy.

Another thing is resale value...
Personally, I'm not too bothered with that, as I am not really thinking about getting rid of the bike, but the 2024/25 models will be forever tainted anywhere regardless... No one will touch them with a barge pole... 😔

lowest bidder (chineseum) most likely made the bearings poorly or..........

Based on past major recall experiences across numerous vehicles this will take months at least or even years. My WAG is they will be swapping engines. If there are more than a handful of bikes affected it is prohibitive for Kawasaki to have dealers pull engines apart and change parts, then warranty those repairs. From a corporate risk exposure standpoint swapping complete crate engines is much better for them and their warranty system.

Last time I saw something like this was in 2008 when Suzuki had problems with the 2008 RMZ450 engines. They had a few split the cases by the kickstarter when one of the kickstart gears jammed on the shaft and broke the case. It was only a very small number it happened to, but they pulled all the bikes off the showroom floor in early 2008, brought them all back to distribution warehouses and swapped in new engines that had a modified kickstart arrangement. They lost that whole summer of sales to this and then they fire saled the bikes in the fall of 2008 to clear them out before the 2009's came out.

^^ this is certainly not the way to extend sales of a design that is already struggling to maintain relevance. Unfortunately long in tooth, with every penny of profit tied to reducing costs……

To be honest, I'd rather wait as long as it takes and get a new engine than have mechanics perform open heart surgery on a tight schedule.
For me the mule is just a toy, thought, so I understand those who need the bike as a means of transport will feel different, for sure...
Man, this sucks no matter how you slice it 🙃
