So idk if this is normal my 07 zx6 after riding until the tank gets hot and builds up some pressure inside when I shut it off and the engine isn't running I can hear fuel vapors coming from thr gas cap. Idk if the whole cap is bad or a seal inside there but then if I just open the gas cap and release all the pressure it goes away of course. Doesn't cause problems of any kind just didn't know if anyone else had this issue. The vapors are coming out under pressure from in te tank so that's why they make the squealing hissing noise

Mine does this too, But If I don't fill it up to the top, It helps.
So try not filling it past the bottom of the neck.

My 07 never did this but my 13 does. Just fill it up the way you normally do, then at your first stop open and close the cap. Or just do as Old Dude said...your choice.

Every bike I know of does that. What's really funny is when you are a new bike owner and you are trying to figure out what that weird 'whistle' is, what's causing it, if it means something is wrong et all. In retrospect, I remember spending a lot of time trying to figure that out. LOL. Good memories of being a nub.

My '04 250 did it, my '09 ex650r did it, and my '06 636 does it. Don't worry about it man :thumbup

I've seen pics & heard stories of tanks being damaged from expansion & contraction.

So it's not necessarily something to ignore.

Yes gas expands & evaporates, More so on hot days, try not to park your bike in the sun.

As I said in my first post, filling it to high makes it worse, as your not leaving much room for the expansion, & I think maybe blocking the vent line.??

I never fill past the bottom of the neck, Unless I'm on a road trip & know I'm going to run it out before it can expand.

Also when opening the cap to vent as someone suggested, be very careful, do this slowly, & watch where you put your face.

& if your parking it in the sun, opening the cap to vent it will only help for a short while & you will need to do it again.

So best you can do is not fill to far, & park in the shade.

I had this problem with my 250. I just used. Drill to open the rubber vent and the problem was solved. It was a big problem because I would be driving down the highway and the pressure lock would kill my motor. Scary but I worked it out.

Did you have to bring up an 8 year old thread to prove a point?

Wtf does it make a shit of difference to you for? Someone make you read my reply or what? And yeah these are 8 years old champ just saying they still have not fixed that problem if that's ok with you if not scroll on next time slick.

My gas cap squeals except it’s the thread on style cap, and it sounds like I’m cross threading it each time. There’s a vent tube under the tanks if you ever lifted it up you will find the hoses get pinched or flattened if not routed properly. 8 years or not, it was definitely a random post!
