Evening Everyone,
Quick question, I have recently been having trouble with air/fuel ratio's, My bike will run very poorly between 3500 - 7000rpm like it's starving for fuel, however if i cover the air ram vents on the front and leave a slight gap it runs perfectly, it has been suggested that this would mean the bike is running leaner then recommended - correct???,
This has only really started to happen since i fitted the K&N replacement filter my question is do i need to richen the mixture after fitting the filter or could there be something more sinster at play ??

Suggestions i have been given so far:-
check the valve clearances - going to use the manual to have a go at it (fingers crossed i don't f**k it lol)
check the condition of the plugs - Brand new checked the gaps before installing
check the mixture screws - trying this in the morning according to the manual should be 2 turns out, right??

Bike is a 95 zx6r

Any other suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated
Chris

old plugs that were removed were blackish which suggests over fueling took them out and replaced them, gonna try get it on a dyno shortly though

how far have you driven it since you put the filter in? maybe the computer hasn't recognized the increased air flow.
about 300 kms does the 95 model have a computer?? didnt know that lol

The plugs don't lie. If the are black the bike is rich, maybe only in part of the rev range, but fat enough that it isn't clearing out. I don't know about your carbs, but if your needles are adjustable you can play with the needle height to work on the specific part of rev range that is the issue.

fair enough il pull the new plugs out tomorrow and check them out see whats going on there they have been in the bike for over 150km so far should be able to get some sort of idication from them... Well maybe lol but thanks for the suggestion
