Full beam issue - not working

Hi all

New to this so I hope I am going about this the right way!!(??)

I recently purchased a 2006 zx6r 636 and suddenly my full beam stopped working

At one point it was temperamental and working when it wanted to but now it has stopped working altogether

Everything else including signals and low beam are working just fine and it is only the full beam. The full beam button does not make it come on and neither does the pass button

I have swapped out the bulb and this did not rectify the issue,

Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks in advance

Dom

Welcome Dom. That's a good question. Have you checked the ground? The same happened to my 05 but I only had one high beam working. Both lows were working fine. (dual headlight mod) Swapped out both bulbs and all was fine again. Sorry not much help, but the only thing I can think of other than the obvious wiring checks is to swap out both bulbs and see what happens.

Do you know how to use a digital multimeter, Dom? This is likely going to be the answer to your issue.

If so: You need to unplug the bulb and probe the plug to find out which is your + and -

engage it at your switch, see if you have 12+ volts. Also, test both for continuity (ground connection). Whichever one does have continuity, it should have a very low resistance value. Electricity takes the path of least resistance. A high resistance ground is a bad ground. This will tell you what kind of power issue you're having.

Try this stuff and report back.

It's all about trial and error/ process of elimination.

If you don't know how to use a DMM, then I just wasted my time. Still want to help if at all possible.

Hi all,

thanks for your replies -

not going to lie here - I have noooooo idea about electricals so defo wouldnt know where to start to try and test! :(

since yesterday when I tried again this morning the full beam switch and pass button did work again for a short while but then stopped working again?

when I get home again I will try and open up again and look through the wires to see if I can spot any breaks etc visually? or am I wasting my time?

when I looked at the fuse box there seemed to be only one fuse for the head of the bike so I am assuming if it was the fuse the low beam and signals would also have stopped working or am I mistaken?

Problem sorted (sort of)

I don't know if this helps anyone for the future but thought I would let you know what I found:

Basically - There was a break in the wire which seems to have been caused by steering movement over time. I found the break to be near the side cover (Left / clutch side) so the constant rubbing of the turning eventually caused the wire to break.

If anyone has any similar issues in future and would want a more in depth description or pictures please let me know.

regards

Dom
