bike started feeling weak and making weird noise

by "weak" i mean somewhat unresponsive to throttle input.

So, today I had the bike in 1st (clutch in) I revved it a bit because I noticed that it wasnt being as responsive after giving her a bit of throttle; well thats when I first noticed it anyway.

On my way to work, I take a straight-away road most of the way (pretty empty during that time of day) so I decided to pin the throttle just to see if the problem persisted. Well i noticed that from a roll at approximately 15mph with rpms starting around 3.5k, after i open her up and pin it theres what feels like a slight loss of power between 4k to about 7/8k then when RPMS get high enough 8k+ vtec kicks in and she pulls like a m-fer again.

but i dont know what happens between the 4k-7/8k rpm where it just feels sorta laggy...like to the point of not being able to bring the front wheel up even if i tried to do a clutch up.

also I started to notice a somewhat weird noise betweek the 4-7/8k rpm, almost like a very very slight buzz (sounds sorta like a low "whine" or buzz)

anyway; i know its about time i do the spark plugs, but any chance that could be the problem? any suggestions? or am i just overthinking the whole thing :O

Get a tune huh.. :hmmm:

how would i go about this? can i just go to a shop and askem to "tune this bitch up"? about how much would that cost? :O

dyno tune. that would be my last resort though

prices vary from dyno to dyno.. find a place that step tunes for best a/f ratio

check your fuel lines make sure none are pinched and also pump. make sure it is working right. change plugs if you need them. also check spark on the coils

thanks ill look into the dyno tune.
so is it a possibility that the plugs and/or coils could be the cause?

actually, ive noticed it mainly in 1st through 3rd. and when i notice the power-fade the bike is around 120-180f but i dont really notice the buzz noise unless im cruising in 2nd or 3rd at around 40mph (around 6-7k rpm).

the noise is definitely coming from up front, i noticed it when i stood up to let my pants re-adjust and my head was kind of over the bars.

currently shes at approx. 31k mi. last service, had valved adjusted about 2k miles ago last oil change was about 800mi ago. no hard starts unless its balls cold outside (30-32f), then its a rough idle and sometimes dies unless i adjust the idle pretty high (since my "choke lever" is stuck).

Does your idle fluctuate or rev high?

#13 ·
nope, she idles around +/-1..maybe 2 lines on whatever it is set on (around 1k rpm).
what do you mean by rev high? as in when i initially start the bike or after warmed up?

Thanks man, to you and zxrider, i appreciate the help/suggestions.

Like I said, start cheap and easy.
No matter what you'll need a cable lube kit, make sure it comes with the little tool. Otherwise you'll just spray yourself with lube.
All you should need is a screwdriver, maybe Allen key. Make sure you have the right size screwdriver or key not to strip anything out.
You also might want to white lithium grease the choke leaver internals area.

Start there, then report back.
If you really get jammed up I'll make you a video.
