There should be a diagram of it in your Service manual.

 

Man I was thinking something COMPLETELY different when I opened this thread up. When you hover over the link from the main page, all you see is "I'm looking at doing this my question is, what does the inside of the cat look like? If I cut the top off" lol

Ditto, I actually opened this for the wrong reasons. but yeah like they said exploded view in the manual.

 

I may have a picture somewhere of certain parts of the bike cut open from the auto show. I'll look and see if I got one of the cat.

 

I gutted my 09. There was actually 2 cats inside the header, one about 2 inches from the end of the header, the second about 5 inches in. Basically, they are pieces of ceramic honeycomb, each about 2 inches deep. They were both wrapped in a metal ring, and then tack welded inside the header. To remove them, you will have to spend some time with a drill punching holes through both of the honeycombs, then taking a hammer and chisel to clean out all that remains. The ceramic will break fairly easily, it's just kinda tight trying to work inside the header. It took me about 2 hours to drill and chisel mine out.

 

I don't have a service manual, I bought the bike used and did not get a manual

You need to make sure you clean it out real well as the dust can get sucked back into the engine and cause a lot of damage.

Also, i would wear a dust mask while doing it.

I gutted mine, shes a zx6r 06 636, little different to your 07, i used a screwdriver and hammer to knock out the cats inards, then hoovered all crap left over, started her up and blew anytiny bits out, just make sure you use a mask... She sounded a little louder, but may have been me ? ? when i took off from a set of lights rather rapidly front came up, shifted up and she came up in 2nd just of throttle, never really done that b4, so may have done her some good breathing wise or little bump in road made her come up at that exact moment i cracked throttle open into 2nd , she pops a little when i shut off at high rpm which always sounds good, only every so often though..im very pleased with how she runs..got Power commander , and Arata pipe on with a k&n also, so gutting cat was next thing to do..good luck matey let us know how it goes..:bigthumb: :bigthumb:
