Hey guys, seeing if there was a write up here on the forums on doing a coolant flush strictly for the 05/06 zx6r??? Ive just seen the write for the 07/08 but not sure if its the same layout as the 05/06 zx6r..Input would help..THANKS!!!
Hey! when u say repeat step 4 refill resvoir for flushing are you meaning the reserve coolant resvoire with the rubber cover cap?? or should I rephrase...lol..should I put distilled water as well into the reserve coolant resvoir as well?? or only the resvoire? Using distilled vinegar necessary??1. Drain coolant from the block drain plug (behind header) and the water pump drain plug. I also like to remove, drain, and thoroughly clean the overflow reservoir.
2. Fill radiator with 50/50 mixture of distilled water and distilled vinegar. Run bike until the fan kicks on. Then let sit 20-30 mins.
3. Again drain at the block, water pump, and reservoir.
4. Refill with JUST distilled water, run bike until fan kicks on, let cool for 20-30 mins, and again drain liquid at all three locations.
5. Repeat step 4 until the fluid exiting the bike is clear.
6. Refill bike with fresh coolant. I recommend Engine Ice, or if freezing temps are not an issue where you live, use distilled water and water wetter. Fill radiator as much as you can, rock bike back and forth, and squeeze coolant hoses. This helps to get air out of the system and ensure a full fill. Start bike and let run until fan kicks on. Ensure there is adequate coolant in the reservoir.
So you dont have to put distilled water on the resvoir on the right hand side (throttle side) then correct?Yes, the reservoir that is under your tank on the left side. You can see the high/low fill marks on the side of it. As for coolant, I've heard Engine Ice is phenomenal. I will be trying it out next year when it comes time to flush. I am currently running distilled water and water wetter with a splash f regular antifreeze just in case mother nature wants to let it freeze for a week or tw down here this winter.
No man! its the resvoire right above the right turn signal, you have to remove the small fairing, kinda like if you where going to switch out ur headlight bulb..It has a pic of the resvoir im talking about on the link someone just posted on this thread...What reservoir are you referring to?
If you are referring to the brake fluid reservoir I highly suggest you forget about doing this work and bring the bike to a professional.
Yes the acutal radiator resvoir!!! not the reserve..I was wondering, do I need to put distilled water into the actual radiator resvoir as well when I flush a few times??I think he is referring to the actual radiator...
If your sitting on the bike, this resvoir is on your right hand side right above the right turnsignal mount...So two things:
A picture would help us understand what you are talking about.
There should not be turn signaled on the right clip on.

Lol..Yea I know what im doin..I just needed confirmation with that resvoir... I already know everything else and where the drain plugs are located..Dang man you guys have no confidence in me..hahah...Thanks for the help!Yes.
You have to drain the entire system from the block drain plug, water pump drain plug, and overflow reservoir. Then you need to fill the system via the radiator cap with the 50/50 mixture of distilled water and distilled vinegar. When the radiator is topped off you can choose to also add some of this flush solution to the overflow reservoir. Run the bike until fan kicks on, let sit, then drain. Repeat the above with JUST distilled water and do this until the fluid exiting the bike is clear.
You sure you want to do this on your own? Doesnt seem like you have a grasp of this procedure at all. Its not hard, but you should know what you are doing going into it.
I have read the manual on the coolant flush....Its funny to me cuz the procedure in the manual is diff from what people are telling me...Manual doesnt say to use distilled vinegar, people here on forums are saying to use it...Manual says to remove the reserve resvoire and dump out left over coolant, people here on the forums never mentioned that too me once... so just to give you examples and how someone can get lost in doing this......!That IS the radiator...
Yes you need to put *something* in there.
Seriously dude read the manual. It will help you much.

lol...yea i fell ya...I aint going to do that!!lolLol...
Also i never mentioned vinager. I have no idea if i would put an acid in my engine. I feel that would/could cause corrision issues which may be worse than just flushing with distilled water and letting what ever is missed disolve over the flushing process.
