In Az it gets hot as balls, and we are not required to wear helmets. Just going to the store for some snacks or whatever, I don't put on my bucket. So, I've only owned my 2017 Zx6R since may, (2 mo) and when idling or riding under 30mph without a helmet, I can hear what sounds like the valves ticking. It's definitely prominent. Comes from up under the front of the tank near the clip ons. Once I get between 6k and 8k rpms theres a decent buzz like mettle buzzing on metal. Never had a zx6r before so I have nothing to compare it to. And the dealer says it's normal (of course they do). There's also a strong buzz that paces the rpms in the seat around 8k as well. Tickles my balls on the freeway lol. Could it be bad motor mounts? Loose valves? I have no clue but it's got me a bit worried. I have no mods on the bike and just under 1000 miles.

If the dealer said it was normal then it's probably the infamous "Kawi tick" from the cam chain. Normal. It comes and goes depending on the adjustment of the auto CCT.

It does take a while to get used to it though.

When you wear a "bucket" and hearing protection you won't notice normal extraneous mechanical sounds. When I'm at a track day, if one of my ear plugs comes loose I hear all sorts of sounds that don't sound normal, but they are.

The other option is to take note of how the bike sounds without a helmet and hearing protection, and accept that as normal so you notice any changes that occur, but it will definitely make you paranoid over every little "tick", creak and groan.

I hate that!! Sometimes my helmet rubs on the suit hump on the back when I lean into turns and it makes a weird noise that makes me think there's someone right behind me!

Any chance you have your keys on a fob of some kind, and that it's rattling on the upper triple clamp?

I lived in Mesa, so either live with it and play roulette with your life and no helmet. Or consider your summer like I do winter and don't ride.

I've worn my full gear in 95f heat and 90% humidity. Heat factor about same as yours. Come to a stop and I want to die.
Get back from a session I'm stripping off gear like a cheap whore.

Hate to remember some of your better threads like a rider we lost not to long ago. ATGATT. Period.

It's normal hearing the valves.

i keep my key absolutly solo. not even a key ring on it. and ive noticed a new horrid buzz, like plastic on plastic, from the ignition under no/light/heavy acceleration. its BAD at 4200-5000 rpms. wont happen when deceleration. going into the shop tomorrow for it. and the valves are still buzzing in any rpm.

Seconded. I'm in the Houston area, and learned to ride in Phoenix, on an air cooled 82 Suzuki GS1100E, which was almost unbearably warm to ride, in traffic, in the summer. Now in Houston, it's (to me), much worse, considering the humidity. Whenever I'm tempted to ride without gear, even for the less than 1/2 mile to the grocery store, I remind myself of this quote, from some random guy I met in a motorcycle shop once, "I can cool down a hell of a lot faster than I can heal up."

Plus, I kinda like looking like a Power Ranger.

As an aside, do note that you don't HAVE to wear a helmet in AZ, but if you don't. You STILL NEED to wear eye protection, legally. No helmet, you'd better have some goggles. Used to watch all the squids get pulled over on Mill Avenue for not wearing helmets, and no eye protection.

When I pulled in from Salt Lake at midnight the bank across the way said 99.
I knew it was going to be warm the next day. Made it close to 120.

While being used to S. Florida heat and highly appreciating the low humidity of Arizona really got tired of the saying "It's a dry heat" Look, after 110, it's freaking HOT.
Driving down the road was like facing a hair dryer, my car's 55 x 2 air conditioning was not enough.

Having experienced road rash, it feels hotter than 120. Just saying.

ZX-6R 636 has the infamous Kawi Tick, it fine.

If it bothers you, get a slip on

If you want to know what type of rider that goes without a helmet is? A candidate for:

Darwin Awards: Darwin Awards

I confess, sometimes the Honourable Mentions are almost more entertaining.

BTW, I always wear ear protection. Is that really true? Well, I have 'spare ' ear plugs in every MC jacket - all 5 of them; in the pockets of my three pairs of MC pants; and yet another set in a Zip lock bag in the Zed's 'trunk.' Scary, I know.

I ride in CA, CO, ID, MT, NM, NV, & WY during the summertime (as well as the arid eastern potions of OR & WA), with ATGATT. These are all locations that regularly see triple digit temps. But I also wear 'Hot Weather' gear that one soaks in H²O, and wears under one's gear. I pour cold H²O into my helmet just prior to leaving. I allow the H²O to saturate the liner. My 'summer boots' are perforated Sidi, my 'summer leathers' are perforated Dainese (2-pc); and for extreme heat I have textile jacket & pants. And... I always wear a Camel Bak with fruit juice & Gatorade. Staying hydrated is absolutely essential!

With a little planning all this other stuff of temperature control becomes second nature. Oh, and yes, I wimp out and wear heated gear when the temp is cold. Water proof, not merely resistant, gear is essential, too. My home office closet is ¹/₂ MC riding gear.

There is always some noise causing worry on a bike. Its just how it is. Every now and then it really is something. Usually not.
