click from front end on light braking

ok on your normal braking (front only) when im slowing to a stop bike out of gear in the last 10 feet or so i get a click i can hear and i can feel in the front brake handle. I have checked all tq's pulled the calipers and pads and cleaned then, cleaned the rotor floating pin things, tightened up the head bearing a little. And im still getting this click. I dont do wheelies and stuff. It just started doing this a few weeks after i had a front tire put on. 13k on a 05. no signs of a [email protected] the front tubes. she rides fine if it didnt click. I think i might get the stuff and redo the front tubes this weekend.

i was thinking that your fork tubes probably need rebuilding if it's never been done yet. and does it just click once or multiple times

well it was 1 click, now after i spent hours cleaning on the brake parts i get 2 clicks but they are in diffrent areas. like both calipers click 1 time each. I talked to a friend and he has a bandit that had this same prob. he said it was in the brakes and he could never get it to go away.

it,l just be your pads settling against the retaining pins,nothing to worry about!

yea but it didnt do it the first 13k miles so why now, i didnt change the brakes

the pins arnt an exact fit in the holes on the pads(the holes are slotted on the pads)you probably have a slight "notch" in the reaining pins!

ok heres an update!
I wanted to check the head bearings to make sure they were well greased. so I removed the fuel tank, lowwer fairings, upper fairing and headlight, front fender, front brakes(from rotor, i didnt open the sys.) front wheel, front forks and finally the head asmbly. When i first got it apart i didnt see anything "bad" there was a small amount of grease on the head bearings and in the neck... but i mean a small amount. I cleaned out all the old stuff from the neck and the bearings and repacked them with red tacky grease. greased up the neck area real good, then i saw the upper grease seal was boogiered up. I know its a order item so i just cleaned it and got it in the best working shape I could. Reinstalled the head asmbly and tightened up the lowwer jam nut thing. Then I reinstalled the front forks and set the height on them, tqed that stuff and put on the fender, inspected the front wheel bearings and wiped out some old dirty grease and replaced with new, installed wheel& tqed, installed brakes& tqed. Ok now with the front end kinda together i started tighting down more on the head asmbly jam nut. i got her good and tight and never really felt the head tighten or drag any more. ran the 2nd jam nut down and then finished up tqing and replacing the front end. got her on the ground and went for a eazy strole around the block, brakes felt odd the first 5 or 6 times i used them but then cleaned up. ok feeling safe i went out and got up to speed and did the normal front braking ...... no click, repeat, no click, 3 more times and still no click COOL. So i get back towards my house and deside to really hammer down on the brakes. I really got the front hard(no brakies) and it had a very light click.
So I figure it was play in the head bearings ect. and when i get the new upper grease seal ill really tighten the hell outa it to make sure its not gonna click.

Replace those sorry stock ball-bearings with a set of aftermarket tapered roller steering bearings.

You can get a complete set from All Balls Racing for less than $50. Stockers are going to wear out eventually, so check those out when you're ready instead of getting raped by the stealership.

oh i will 4 sure. i was shocked that it was a ball bearing setup stock. but glad to see a roller is out there to swap in.

Did you resolve this?

The reason I ask is that I had a similar click/clunk. I was convinced it was the head bearings (though the steering action was smooth) or a wrongly torqued locknut on the stem.

Anyway, I changed to a different set of calipers and the problem has gone.

The old Tokico 6 pots have a reputation of being shit. The set I have were giving uneven pad wear, were sticking and were prone to intermittant fade, even though I had put effort in to take care of them. I guess a full rebuild would have helped but I get the feeling that the Tokicos are quite a bit of work to keep at 100%

I swapped to Nissin 4 pots and though they aren't quite as sharp they are much more progressive and give better feedback/feel.
I'm figuring that I will get more power once the pads have had time to bed in as well.

yep i removed the bearings, cleaned and repacked them with good grease and tightened the hell out of the head. if i really hammer down on the brakes im talking rear end lifting i get a click but under regular braking its good. im going to replace the ball bearings with a tapered bearing 1 day and ill go just a wee bit tighter. but yea it fixed my issue

I've got a similar problem that developed only right after I changed the front tire. Any idea why? There was no.clickijg before that at all.

When you say you "tightened the hell out of the head." Did you follow the manual on the torque sequence and spec? You may have literally crushed those bearings. In which case give it a few thousand miles (you wheelie, correct?) and your going to have a nasty clunk from the front end. Pieces of bearings and some really fun to remove races when disassembly is required.
