2003 zx6r engine mount question

Has anyone ever broke their mount, or had a crack in it and had it welded back together? What was your experience with it and how did it hold up. Im thinking of buying this really nice condition zx6r for cheap, and this is the issue with it. I know i could find another frame for around a grand and swap everything over. But i thought i would research this route first. Thanks for any input.

Is the frame actually cracked or just the engine mounting hardware that threads into it?

If the frame itself is cracked I would not recommend buying the bike. If its just the threaded sleeve or some of the other hardware, it can all be replaced.

A pic would help

"mounts" on your bike don't thread into anything. In fact there are really no "mounts" in the sense that a separate part is holding the engine in place. There is the frame and the engine. Those are the "mounts" on your bike. There are bolts and depending on where you look either "adjusting bolts" or "engine mounting nuts". Kawasaki calls them different things in different pages of the service manual. The adjusting bolts thread into the frame and locate the engine side to side in the frame. The bolts go thru the adjusting nuts and thread into the engine to secure it. So, if your talking about the part of the frame that the adjusting bolts thread into, that is the frame.

You should be looking for a different bike if you haven't already bought this one. The entire "it's a really nice condition bike and it's cheap HOWEVER it has this on tiny little problem" part of the story would scare me right away. There is a reason it's for sale and a reason this "really nice condition" bike is cheap.

A picture would help...but-- I assume it is one of the front two

anything metal (steel, aluminum, brass etc) can be welded and machined to be as good as it was by a competent person.....

Be much easier if this is the frame tab you are talking about vs the engine itself---but either way to do the job properly will require engine removal to do it correctly

woohoo we are having fun now
Stupid people say stupid things on the internet, so be wary of who those people are. If you solicit advice on the internet, just keep in mind 99% of what you'll receive is not based on fact or science-and likely atleast 95% of it is based on bullshit and bravado regurgitated from some other schlub who also did not experience any of what they claim and are also full of shit. If you don't like my bluntness- too bad. I am not here to please you, so move along, your approval is not desired nor is it needed. So before opening your pie hole and adding more stupidity, perhaps sit back, listen, absorb and learn something. You know that saying, it is better to remain silent and thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt!
