Fork/tripple compatability with 03-04 636

So i have a '03 636. love the bike.
front end was damaged, so i need new forks and tripples (upper and lower).

what years 636 forks+tripples will direct swap on my 2003 bike?

EvilTwin has a set of '09 forks on his '03 track bike. I believe the bearing is the same but you still need the triple clamps for the larger diameter Showa BPF.

I'm sure more people will chime in... just give it some time.

03-08 triples and forks are all 50mm so they will all work so long as you use the same yr upper and lower triples. 03-04, 05-06, and 07-08 triples are all different as far as I know even though they are 50mm.

I have 07 forks in my 03 triples.

09-13 have 51mm forks and triples are larger diameter for the corresponding larger forks

Hope this helps

I have an extra stock 03 upper and lower triple I can sell you..they were drilled for dirtbike bars and have the ignition, but no key. Were off my friends 04 ZX6R which was a stunt bike. pm me if interested

so basically looks like if you have a FULL front end (forks AND tripples) of 2005+ you can swap it into a '03 bike.

and if you only wanna swap the forks and not the tripples, i'd have to stay with a 2008 or older.

exactly the info i was lookin' for!

now question is should i spend $1000~ to upgrade to 08 or 09+ front end....

you can swap any set of zx6r forks on to the 03 but like Evil said the triple trees are different. meaning different rake, trail, and different spacing. as far as a street bike goes messing with your rake and trail slightly isnt going to be horrible, handling might increase or decrease in quality but its a street bike not a track bike. since the 03-04 zx6r's use different wheels different spacers and possibly rotors will have to be used if you upgrade to 05+ forks. with $1000 you might be able to find a used set of ohlins forks for your weight off wera classifieds. a nice used set (forks, triple, axle, spacers, etc) off ebay would be no more than $600. i got 07 zx10r forks for $90 shipped off ebay

When you swap to different forks be sure to match them with a set of rotors from the same generation. When I put the 09 front end on my bike I got an 09 wheel, with rotors, too. The 03-04 had smaller diameter rotors and on any of the newer forks, the brakes will sit to far out and not bite the whole rotor.

As others have stated, 03-08 forks were all the same diameter, so the triple clamps are interchangeable, once you get to 09 the fork diameter changed so you'd need the matching triple clamps, but bearing size stayed the same. Rake angle is actually affected by your frame, not the triples, at least with OEM kawi parts that is. After installing the 09 front end, and setting everything at stock height specs, my rake and trail remained the same as they were with the stock set-up.

I was able to pick up an 09 front end (forks, triples, brakes, bars, controls, everything) for $500 and the wheel was $350, but I could have done it a little cheaper by just getting new rotors.

Hey all, I know this is going to sound absolutely crazy and stupid but I have a 2013 636 and I want to put on the 09 636 front forks. The reason why I want to do this is so I can lower my front end more than 4mm. Reading a bunch of postings and doing some research I still cant determine if this will work, what extra do I have to get. can I just swap my forks and bolt all my 2013 parts back on? do I have to use the 09 triple trees cause its 50mm outside diameter and not 51mm?

THANKS!

You'll need the triple tree as well, due to the difference in diameter.
