Cooling fan not working

Ok so I recently had to replace my radiator and now my radiator fan wont turn on. Ive hooked up a multimeter to the connector and it shows a reading of 14.5 volts when the tempature gets over 215 but the motor wont start working. It doesnt show a reading when the temp is below 215. Ive even hooked up a spare fan that I have and that one doesnt work either. Need some help??

checked the fuse and it was normal, like i said when i hooked up my multimeter to the connector piece it showed 14 volts going through it so all the way up to the connector it gets power. I tried hooking up my extra fan to my car battery and it didnt turn on. I didnt try the fan hooked up on my radiator yet though but im pretty sure both of these fans are good because the one on my bike worked fine before i did the radiator swap and the one the guy sent me worked fine before he took it off his bike to send it to me....

When you checked the voltage at the plug for the fan. Did you go from one terminal on the plug to the other, or from one terminal to ground (frame, bolt, etc)? Make sure you go from one terminal to the other. Some bikes always have voltage at the fan and close the ground circuit to bring the fan on.

so you hooked a spare fan up to a spare battery to see why the one on your bike isn't working? Can we please get a face palm, and a forceful one at that.

When you say you hooked your multimeter up to the connector, how did you do it and what was it set to? Put power directly to the fan and see if it turns on. if not, then your fan motor isn't working. Also, make sure that your cooling system is full, if you get a bubble where the sensor is then the ECU won't know that its hot so it won't turn the fan on.

Setp one: Obtain 5-8 squares of clean, dry toilet paper.
Setp two: some prefer to neatly fold while others prefer the "wad" technique, but you need to condense the squares into a thicker unit of TP.

...do I really need to continue?

even if im getting a temp reading on the display. And what I did was hooked my multimeter up to the connector, one lead on the postive wire and one on the negative wire i didnt ground it to the chasis. The connector wouldnt show a voltage until the temp reading got over 215 then it would show 14 volts on the connector.

If you can hook up the fan directly to the battery then you will know if the fan is good or not. You said you got 14 volts at the plug. What did you ground to? Does your meter have a ohm setting? Find the negative wire inside the plug and put one probe on it then put the other probe to the motor mount bolt. It should ring. If it doesn't then you lost what is known as a common ground. But before you do all that do like I said with the fan motor first. It is usually the issue, and it is possible to have two bad fans. Tell me what you find and let's take it from there. Good luck.

what should i do if the fan doesnt have a common ground I plugged the fans up to the battery and they didnt turn on....but honestly they both worked before i did the swap...there should be no reason for them to just quit when i reinstall my radiator....especially both of them....

If that battery has a charge those fans should spin. If they didn't spin then yes both fans are bad. Unless maybe you are doing something totally wrong. I don't know what else to say bro. Being that you have power at the plug I really just don't think that is the issue. I would focus on the fans being shot. I would buy a new fan and go with that. But at this point without the bike in front of me I am like Stevie Wonder man. Lol.

if you go dirrectly from the battery to the fan, with nothing in between but the two wires that YOU put there, and the fan does not come on, then the fan motor is broken and the fan needs to be replaced.

What year is your bike that it has two fans?

Setp one: Obtain 5-8 squares of clean, dry toilet paper.
Setp two: some prefer to neatly fold while others prefer the "wad" technique, but you need to condense the squares into a thicker unit of TP.

I don't think he has two fans on the bike. I think he has two separate fan units and both are bad.
