Question 99 ZX6R, New but some problems HELP

Hey guys new to the forums here and a new kawi rider.

A few days ago I purchased a 99 zx6r and it is my first bike. I went with a friend who knows a good amount about bikes and he rode it home but noticed some problems.

First he said it has a weird head wobble when going slow through a turn and coming out of the turn. We noticed the fork seals were busted and leaking so I'm getting new forks all together with lower triple tree. He suggested I get a new steering bearing kit, front axel, front wheel bearing and basically re-do the whole front end. Also get 2 brand new tires. Do you think this will stop the wobble?

Another problem is the left handle bar can touch the gas tank but the other side doesn't I know this isn't normal but is that a really bad problem?

I bought it from a guy who had it in storage for 2 years and didn't ride it. He got the carbs cleaned, new battery, new chain and sprocket. We noticed a small dry rot patch in the back tire. It was obviously dropped but not doesn't look like a bad one. Only the coolant reservoir and plastics are cracked. It has 34,000 miles but the engine is very, very strong. Started right up on a cold start no problems. I paid $1300 I hope this extra work doesn't put me in the hole too bad any help from the veteran riders around here would be greatly appreciated! I can't wait to get out and enjoy my new bike! but the only thing holding me back is I want to make sure my bike is as completely safe as possible and that this wobble will stop.

Welcome.. If the bars touch 1 side of the rank then I would say something is bent and that could be a bad sign but bight just be the clip on is bent.. Easy fix.. Did you guys check the frame when looking? For the head shake new headstock bearings would be good place to start too.. New tires are always a bonus..

true the front rim make sure its not bent befor you do a thing if its straight then pull your forks you'll bend a fork tube befor a tripple always lay the tubbes ona table and slowly roll them i bet you got a bent fork if forks are straight do the lower tripple dont bother with the axel ive personally seen 4 to 5 nasty rear ends into cars and just stupid shit fastest was at like 25 ruined the rim and both forks and lower tripple he didnt tuck or bend the frame cause he hit on an angle you go any faster your definately dead or your bikes in two and if you bend a front axel you gotta be doing 100 your bike would fit into a milk crate when done its never happened and id almost say never will witha bike that still fixable so dont bother with the front axle also bent rotors can cause some serious wobble if bad but youd hear them scrapping the front rotors every second, check and get back to me im sure i can help you fix my bike i have posted is a 98 zx6r complete one off custom i know this bike check my posts for pics to see what ive been able to do

Awesome thanks for the replies guys. Yeah everyone says I got an awesome deal for that money I calculated it all and 600 bucks even for all the parts.

Pizzot I also forgot to mention the brakes and rotors were replaced so I know that's good. I'm going to check the rim real good tomorrow and the forks are leaking so im gonna go with a new set and when I take em out ill roll em. I'll save money on that axel too now thanks. Ill definitely be hitting you up while I'm working on this bro.

Arron as far as the handle bar touching I think its because it was definitely dropped on that side and probably bent the handle bar, and what exactly is the clip on? Sorry for the newb question still learning everyday and doing all work myself. How serious is that? Can I bend it back slightly or what would it need to be replaced? Could this whole thing be some kind of alignment issue since the left side handle bar can touch the tank causing the wobble?

Thanks for the feedback guys ill post some pics up soon.

Yer it can be replaced easy.. It's a cheap part on eBay.. Like above said when you replace the fork seals put the forks on a flat bench or table and roll them and have a close look to see if its bent or not.. Might be a silly question but where the tire pressure about right.. I have taken A few bike for a test ride and the tires have been soft and it changes the feel for it

yeah it could be tweaked just loosen the upper and lower tripples slightly first put a jack under the header and slightly liftthe front end till the wheel has like a half inch between it an floor you just dont want pressure bearing on front end mostly if you completely loosen the upper tripple all the way by that i mean the bolts in the tripple itself and the ones on the clipons /handlebars then the seering stem nut you dont gota take it off just loosen nut and then reach beneath and lossen both bolts on the lower tripples theres four in total just watch so that the fork tubes dont slide out of the tripple better to have a frien help once you loosen it all just retighten the lower first all the way the clamps will 99 percent align them selves itf its not bent then just reverse the process and tighten the upper tripple then the steering stem nut and then fianally the clipons if its not bent you should be fine and i can pronbably find you the tripple for your bike i think i know someone selling one for 50 shipping cant be more then 20 worse case senerio ill check back and see how your doing
