Blew up my 2007 motor and found a 2009 one cheap but the camshaft sensor hole is filled in. Does it not need one? I’m also not getting spark and I don’t know if it’s because the ecu detects the cam sensor isn’t plugged in. Do I need to get a new harness and ecu? Or is there a way around this? Or should I switch over the top part of the engine

So, yeah, been there done that. As you found out, the 09 motor fits (you need to add an additional spacer on the top engine mount as well) but the wiring is completely different. You have to use a 09+ harness. You'll have to swap stators as well because while both are 3 wire, the plug styles are different. It's also a mother fucker because the rectifiers are located in complete opposite ends of the bike, and tucking away the wire harness is a total bitch.

But it's possible, because I've done it. Headlights, tail lights, turn signals, all that shit is the same and plug n play. Well, tail light plug is different too, but that's simple to splice in. Depending on your situation, probably easier to swap the harness and roll on with it versus trying to find a 07-08 motor and swapping it back out.

It is always those that use their brakes the least that want to upgrade them the most.

What about the pcm and ecm is that the same or do I have to replace that with the harness?

I don't know the exact answer, but to play it 100% safe, I would say yes. Given the electronic difference, the 07-08 using a camshaft sensor vs the 09-12 accomplishing the same thing via the crank sensor, I would presume yes, they are different and would need swapped over as well.

I had a complete 09-12 donor setup so I swapped everything.

It goes without saying, but you'll have to use the 07-08 airbox as well because the 09-12 won't fit due to the frame differences. I believe the air temp sensor will just have to kinda lay there on top of the air box, because the 09-12 goes in the top of the airbox while the 07-08 plugs into the front fairing stay. I suppose you could extend the wires and accomplish the same thing, but yeah, I was lazy. Worked well enough.

did you replace all of the sensors to? Such as mass airflow sensor and intake sensor?
