So i saw i video on youtube on how is done on the 636 2013 to 2018 model. Now i'm very afraid to remove fairings on the right side to open the radiator cap and bottle cap. I feel like i will brake something and nothing is broken. So does anyone have a diy or pictures on how to remove the right fairing? Also i plan on doing engine ice that is ok as well right? Cycle gear said is ok.
Yes engine ice will be ok. There is a video on youtube somewhere with the full fairing removal but it's actually pretty easy! At first it took me over an hour to get them all off though. Thankfully, I no longer have street fairings
On the '09 I have, it's fairly easy to remove the nose clip as one section. Should be nearly identical on your gen. First time, pretty stressful. By the fourth time you'll have it off in less than an hour. More like 30 minutes.
Take off the lowers
Take off the mirrors
Remove the inner fairings
Undo the bolt near the upper, outer edge of the headlight housing on each side.
Remove the Allen bolt on the trailing edge of the fairing clip on each side, pull that part of the fairing off the rubber grommet it rides in on the mounting point.
Disconnect the wiring harness from the headlights, marker lights, turn signals, and the regulator/rectifier.
From there, the whole assembly comes off as one part. Kinda scary that first time.
Ok so uppon further inspection i want to confirm that no fairings or anything need to be removed for this job. I turned the wheel all the way to the left and was able to open the radiator cap and was able to open the coolant resivoir cap as well. Bought a long funnel and was able to pour it in the rad and resivour.yes the radiator cap has 2 close clicks and did it with my hand no problem now my hand was able to fit in there might be different for someone with wider hands. The left fairing was not even removed either just loosened to take off the waterpump bolt to drain. Just want to make sure someone might try this method as well.
