Foam glued in the airbox

I have 2019 zx6r I'm going to race with. I don't know why kawi glued foam into the airbox. I'm assuming it would be for noise reduction. I would think this hinders the smooth air flow thigh the box...

I agree on both points. The '09-'12 racing manual states removal of the screen in the snorkel to reduce resistance, but doesn't mention the air box foam. Seems like it would make some minor amount of difference to remove the foam...... I'd make a point of getting all of the glue off as well to reduce rough spots.

no not at all... But every lil bit counts. I had an 07 that i raced and i tried to get every once of power out of it(on my budget) that i could. So why wouldn't i do the same. That did me would slow down the air path. Same reason they port and polish heads.

Noise reduction to my understanding. With a stock exhaust you can hear the induction noise a bit more. I guess when Min/Maxing it a easy thing.

Idk how the 19 is set up, but on the 09-12 the foam covers 2 drain holes in the bottom front of the airbox. Supposed to help with water draining and or keeping things from coming in those holes. If thats the same foam we are talking about. I threw that Sh*t away too lol.

It is partially for noise reduction by reducing the intake "howl" and resonance at certain RPM's.

It's mostly for when you're riding in the rain. Droplets hit and loose their velocity, otherwise it will mist and go straight to the filter/intake and rob power. This way it sponges and drips out the holes in the bottom (in theory, not sure how well this works in real world conditions).

There is another theory that it will have the same "slowing down" effect on insects or road debris rather than have them bounce down the intake tract and potentially puncture the filter at 150mph.

I yank all mine out too. :wink
