Thinking of letting her go.... My ZX6R that is

Hey everyone,

As it is soon to be riding season again, and as I didn't have many winter projects this year I haven't posted up in a while. I am stuck at a cross roads between letting go of my 2013 ZX6R or not.

In short, I fell into the trap that many of you call track days. I rode 7 days last year (6 at MidOhio and 1 at PittRace) and hope to do at least 10 this year. Mid Ohio, PittRace, VIR, and Summit Point are on my list for this year. With that being said, I didn't ride on the road much last year, and didn't have much fun when I did. I don't live in the country anymore so getting to somewhere fun to ride takes a bit of time. So now that it is soon to be spring (selling season) and the time for me to re-up my insurance, I again consider selling my bike.

Although my wife has an attachment to the ZX6R, I have financially spent more money on both my track bike (07 GSXR) and ZX6R then either are worth. At the end of the day, it would make more sense to sell the ZX6R. Considering I just bought that GSXR last winter, rebuilt it, and just bought a used suspension set up.

I also believe I am reasonable when it comes to selling my previous bikes. I am not the guy who we commonly see on craigslist wanting $6,000 for a 20,000 mile 2006 R6 Raven Edition. I don't think I would see $6,000 for my 13 ZX6R.

So after drawing the story out, I ask. Do you guys think it would be beneficial for me to sell some of the parts in this forum or the WERA Forum vs leaving them on the bike as is.

Here is what it has:
9,8xx Miles and was not laid down or (Tracked..... Although I thought about it.)
RaceFit Exhaust (Growler Cut Short)
Black Widow Stainless Steel Decat Headers
Bazazz Zfi
ECU Reflash
New EBC Double H Pads
Driver Block Off Plates
Spiegler Stainless Steel BrakeLines (White)
MSM Adjustable Levers
Driver 520 Silver Chain
-1 + 2 Driver Sprockets
Lust Racing Lowering Links
Double Bubble Dark Smoke Windscreen
Custom Works LED Integrated Tail Light
Shogun Frame Sliders
Driven Axle Block Sliders
Seat Cowl
Took off Factory Decals to Add the ones you see instead.

The problem would be the ECU flash, as timing was changed. So I would have to look for a stock ECU, as I don't want to pay to have it set back to normal.

I figure where I live and the market, I could get between $4800 and $5000 for this bike come spring. I honestly don't believe I would get much extra if I parted out some of the aftermarket stuff since it isn't suspension or breaks. but figured I would ask your opinion.

Thanks!

This is what I would do: keep it as a backup track bike. Comprehensive and liability insurance only. Forfeit the collision coverage. You have to track it at least once to compare it to the gsxr . You'll probably want to sell the gsxr instead and track build the zx6r. lol

If you sell it, at the very least part out the race-fit exhaust.

The thought of having it as a primary or backup has also been an option. So was the thought of selling the GSXR, but at the end of the day, although I don't owe any money on either of them, I would recoup more money on the ZX6R. And if I sold the GSXR, I would spend all the cash on new front and rear suspension. Then spend an additional $700 on Armour Bodies

And trust me, I would love to take it to the track. As it is modified almost identically similar to the GSXR with the major exception of engine size and some other things, I am sure it would be a blast. Of course, then I would have to keep it.

If you sell it, 'as is'.

If you have the OEM parts, sell those.

Least effort, most return, IMHO.

If you keep as a backup bike for the track, I'd forfeit liability and keep collision. That's what I've had on my last few bikes. Don't need liability because I'll never use them on public roads so that won't do me any good. But I want coverage in case of theft, or if my garage burns down, or if I get in an accident while it's in the trailer on my way to/from the track. Collision and comp cover all of that.

Sounds like you have already made the decision to sell the ZX6R........and in your case it sounds like the right decision.......... based on what little I know based on your post..........

So if you were looking for permission from the forum There you go- sell and have some fun on the track on the suzi
you'll have fun on either bike, and it sounds like keeping the suzi gets you the most monies in pocket to spend on those 10 days this season and tires etc........

woohoo we are having fun now
Stupid people say stupid things on the internet, so be wary of who those people are. If you solicit advice on the internet, just keep in mind 99% of what you'll receive is not based on fact or science-and likely atleast 95% of it is based on bullshit and bravado regurgitated from some other schlub who also did not experience any of what they claim and are also full of shit. If you don't like my bluntness- too bad. I am not here to please you, so move along, your approval is not desired nor is it needed. So before opening your pie hole and adding more stupidity, perhaps sit back, listen, absorb and learn something. You know that saying, it is better to remain silent and thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt!

You Break my heart, dude! This is such a sweeet bike, and you're expecting under 5K? Are you kidding me? I just bought one a couple of months back. I would be seriously buying this from you instantly and getting it shipped to CA; shipping is 400 to 500. Even then at 5500, this would be a steeeeeel.

If you really wanna sell it, I'd still price it at 5500, especially if it has ABS. All the mentioned mods are a great bonus for the new buyer. By the way, you can still sell some parts and sell the bike for 5000+. Let me know if you'd wanna sell the shogun slider, windshield, ECU/Bazzaz upgrades. Please PM me.

Current Bike: 2016 ZX6R KRT (ABS) (getting to know)
Ex Bike: 2005 CBR F4i (was smooth like butter)

Idk about a "steal"...market for used bikes seems to be all messed up nowadays. It's a 6 year old bike with not too many mods, most of which are not of great value. When I bought my zx6r, it was 7 years old, it had 3100 miles on and about $9000 worth of aftermarket parts on. I paid $4000 for it and it was listed for sale for like 6 months. 2 years later when I tried to sell it, I tried to get $5000 for it including another 2 sets of wheels and some other spares, and never got a single decent offer.

Around $5000 seems like a fair price to me. Not high, not low, just about right IMO. Maybe in California that might be a really good deal since everything is more expensive there.

You got lucky then if you got the bike for $4K. You said 7 years old bike - which means it was not of THIS (2013 - 2018) generation. I believe you. THIS Gen bike holds it price well - its had a lot of changes from the factory (incl ABS) and a huge upgrade in its LOOKS department also. So yeah, they hold their value. I got a 2016 (NO Mods, all OEM) for $7500 (3200 miles), and that's the BEST price I could find in almost 2 years of research. NOW, I'm trying to upgrade levers, exhaust, brake lines, headlights, frame sliders, windshield....etc...etc. If you add it all up (+labor), its close to a Thousand dollars (not incl tune).

If I could get this bike for $5K+$500 shipping, I'd get it in a heartbeat I'd get it for $5500. Try finding one on Cyclegear or CL. Wishing OP the best for his Sale - hold your price (wait for Spring/Summer).

Yeah I got it in 2016 and it was a 2009. They always drop a lot when a new gen comes out. So now that the 2019 is out, the 2013-2018 are dropping a lot and not holding their value as much as they have been so far. You'd be a fool to buy a mostly stock one for over $7000 now, when a brand new 2019 is $10k.

Some dealers will also have specials going on at end of year. I remember back in 2010, my roommate got a brand new leftover 2009 model (monster edition) for $7600. And back then MSRP was listed at a little over $10k if I recall correctly. That thought has crossed my mind to wait until around October-December this year and see what kind of deal I can get on a 2019.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone. As of now, both of my bikes are torn down as it is the time of year where they get a good deep clean on everything. Brake pads replaced, fluids replaced, etc. As I don't have much time in my days, I am hoping to set a few hours or so aside over the next few weeks to get both of them back together. If I decide to sell, I will let you all know. However, I continue to think that I should keep it, buy another PitBull trailer restraint and when I travel this year for vacation and track days to take both and find some new roads to ride with the wife on the back.
