No it doesn't. When you measure rear wheel horsepower you are measuring torque and RPM at the wheel. Ignoring non-linear drive line losses, if you lower your gearing 5% you will get 5% more torque at 5% lower RPM (for any given engine RPM). Multiply that out and you will see that the horsepower doesn't change at all.

You are confusing acceleration and engine power. If you lower your gearing you do get more acceleration, but that doesn't mean your engine is suddenly making more power. As you noted, the bike accelerates harder in the lower gears than the higher gears. By your explanation that means the engine is making more power in the lower gears than the higher gears. Do you really believe that its output depends on the gear you choose?

In the end gearing is leverage. The lower gears offer the engine more leverage over the load, which means the bike accelerates harder. It doesn't mean the engine output has changed any.

Apologies to OP for the thread derail.

I Ride: '16 ZX-6R 30th Anniversary
Garage
For me it was a childhood dream. I remember going into the “Kawasaki Centre” as it was back then, and seeing the ninjas of the day and wanting one. Then I went back a few years later (parents were into bikes) and took loads of posters and brochures. Years later I passed my test and went straight there as it was the only place I remembered. I walked in and was talking to a guy who turned out to be the owners son. His dad walked right up to me and said “Theif! You took all my brochures!”. It was in jest, but how did he recognise me 15 years later?

Anyway, for me it was an easy decision. I’ve had loads of other bikes but keep coming back to the ZX6. This is my third. That was what made me buy it but having ridden the R6, GSXR, 675, CBR and pretty well every other mainstream bike you can in all classes, this is the one that’s home. Ergonomically, the looks, the control, the power, it’s flawless. I’ll own one as long as I can get hold of one that runs.

I Ride: 2015 636
I had not made up my mind even on what one to purchase. However, I got a great deal on 2015 636 that was all black. It also helped to me that there was extra 36 hp compared to my other options It turned to be a good decision, I see many more gsxr, r6 than i do Kawasaki around, it makes me feel exclusive a bit.

I like little disagreements like this... I have an opportunity to learn shit from this kind of disagreement. Keep it up. No hard feelings for either of you. There are some things I don't know. I know how to ride motorcycles well but understanding all of the internal happenings is not my strong suit.

For me it was mainly off the looks, broke my leg in the mid 90s as a teenager on a moto x bike and spent a while in hospital with nothing to do but look at the bike mags that I had. The zx7r was the big thing at the time and it just looked awesome, I spent hours looking at it. Fast forward a few years and I still have a real soft spot for all the ninjas and especially the Zx6r they look and sound incredible. Had my Zx6r just over a month now and it’s been fantastic, definitely the best bike I’ve owned.

Because growing up, everyone wanted a ninja.

The styling, the engine sound, the gearbox sound. The green. Then other colors started coming up with the 636.

I wanted a zx10r but that’s just too much top speed that I will use on a freeway somewhere just to say I did. The 6r is plenty fast but takes a little more work. Especially on a track.

I Ride: ZX6R Ninja 636 - 2005 year
Garage
I was looking to move from my sv650s K2 onto a 600cc supersport as I love the looks of them.
Anyway I enquired a few placed looking at CBR's, Gixxers etc and all were messing me about. Went to look at the Ninja and got a good deal.
I was shocked at how smooth it was and everyone was saying that I would miss the torque from the SV650....bah, no such thing.
The 636 is smoother, pulls better and has easier controls than the SV650. Smoother power delivery, better for slow riding and downshifting with the slipper clutch, and looks awesome in the green.

So I kind of came across it by fluke in a way as I had a GSXR on my radar for a long time. Since getting the Kawi, I cannot see myself letting go of this, unless for a 10R, but even then, the 636 is not exactly slow by any means. Plus it is the most powerful "600" bike out there.

The slipper clutch is a nice feature. I still rev match, and my clutch stays in great shape.

Went on MotorCycle News (https://www.motorcyclenews.com/), I was looking for a new bike, saw an 09 in blue with the underseat exhaust and went, that's my new bike.

It gets better every time I look at it also fast as, reasonably frugal and makes me grin so big my head damned near falls off

The most important, overlooked reason- comfort. May not be comfortable to everyone, but I sat on Suzuki, yamaha, honda, a Duc.... none compared to Kawasaki. Although i've yet to warm up to an aprillia or Augusta mv4 (bucket list items).
