@Gawernator ..I use FRAM filters in my car every oil change and never had a problem with them yet. And haven't herd of anything bad on them for motorcycle use.

If you cut one open you can see how cheaply made they are.

^^fwiw, my '09 has had nothing but Fram filters on it since I've owned it ('12 to present, 40+ K miles).

It's also not had any motorcycle specific oil in it during that time. I don't buy $10+/quart oil.

Find the owners manual online and it will tell you everything you need to know about your bike including what type of oil

Exactly - how come nobody mentioned Shell T6? It is full synthetic (Blue can).

I wonder if you can use Redline's Water Wetter - I use it in my car to keep it running cool. How's the engine-ice stuff compared to water wetter?

Is this good for the 2016 ZX6r also with only 3K miles or so? OEM recommendation is 10-40 I think.
Thanks!

Should be fine. Multi grade oils are rated with the "winter" viscosity as the first number and the viscosity at operating temp the second.

So 15W-40 breaks down like this -

Viscosity rating of 15 at 0 degrees hence the W for "winter" (lower number better flow ie "thinner). Might be a problem if you ride in cold weather like 40 degrees or lower

Viscosity rating of 40 at operating temp (200 F IIRC). (lower number better flow ie "thinner)

Basically, a 15W-40 oil will be slightly "thicker" in the cold than a 10W-40 but the same viscosity at operating temp.

I've run T4 through multiple winters here in VA, without any problems.

Thanks Wildcard - I live in SF bay area (CA), so it doesn't get very cold here.

I've always run the mobile 1 synthetic for bikes. $10 a qt. Bit last 2 changes on the 2013, some buddies got me on the Rotella kick. Had zero issues, and they have been running it forever in all their bikes with no problems. So after I get the break in change done on the new bike, I'm gonna go with rotella in it as well.

The engine ice works great! it brought my temps down by about 20 degrees. I use it as is no need to add "water wetter"
