2003 zx6r power commander, also power question

so I bought a 2003 zx6r to build a stunt bike currently own a 09 zx6r
the guy i bought the 03 from claims he installed a power commander an it made the bike run worse so he took it back off. also claims he couldn't get it to wheelie sitting down. I rode the bike and could it to wheelie sitting down and standing up. had to work for it every now and then but it has a 40 tooth sprocket in the rear. think that has a decent amount why. claims a mechanic told him the timing was off was why it wouldn't wheelie like that. idk how true that is. I don't see how the timing would be off honestly. I was going to install the power commander just to see. Has anybody installed a power commander and it made a difference?
thanks in advance

I Ride: '09 ZX6R
If you got the PC with the bike, there's probably no harm in trying it....were it me I would make sure it's got a good map installed, and the bike was freshly tuned up before hand.

How many miles on the bike?
