Weird High RPM Issue

Hey Guys,

I recently just bought a 2005 zx6r about 2 months ago. I bought it used and it had about 11500 miles on it when I bought. Recently, I've had some new parts installed like a slip on Scorpion exhaust and an integrated tail light. However, its been running a little strange lately and I went for a ride sunday. While riding sunday, the bike kinda studdered in 3rd gear going at about 55 miles at 6-8k rpm, cant remember exactly. The exhaust made a loud pop and bike jerked forward like it lost power for half a second :O, so I pulled over, stopped, and started it back up. Then it rode fine. I just filled the bike up with ethanol free gas, but sometimes I use premium and sometimes I mix them together, depends what gas station i go to. Is this bad? Anyway, I took a video and it was doing this weird thing at high rpms where it kinda bounces up and down, just see for yourself. I don't abuse the bike either, I take care of it, even though I've only had it for like 2 months.

Thanks,

I can't see the video, for some reason embedded YouTube videos don't work on this site on Apple IOS.

Anyway, make sure you narrow it down that it's actually at a certain RPM. Does it happen in every gear at the same RPM or is it related to throttle position?

I had an issue with my previous triumph where I thought it was losing power at a certain RPm. After some experimenting, I realized it was related to throttle position and not a certain RPM. This was crucial because then I started looking at the actually throttle assemblies and the electronics and eventually found that my wiring harness got cooked.
heres a link to the video if you can open it: Its a little weird, I don't know if its like a misfire or something like that... Maybe its the new exhaust? It had the stock one on for like 12000 miles and didnt do this weird thing.

Umm. Bouncing off rev limiter but it still didnt sound right. It was bouncing too slowly. Somethin is off....possibly a cylinder not workin properly or a fuel injector?

Does the bike feel slow? Whats the fastest speed u can get to?
I mean it gets up to speed... I went 100 on the way home just to test it a little and it was okay, I didn't want to go too fast, lots of cops lol. Any idea what would cause it?
Lol launch control. Did it start happening right after you put on the new exhaust?
No not right after, it used to be normal when redlining it, not slow like it is in the video. I had an FI light eliminator installed I dont know if that would cause it to act weird... started acting weird on Sunday
I'd pull the plugs and see what they look like, a bog and a loud pop would indicate too much fuel being dumped at some point and it being burned off in the pipe. Look at each plug and see if any of them are fouled up, might be a good idea to replace them right there and then. If only one looks too black you may have an injector or another problem on that cylinder.
Alright I'll try that, I don't really like touching mechanical shit lol, but Ill take it to take place I got it from... Hope its a spark plug and not a cylinder just got the bike
Well just for an update... I let the bike cool down and took it back out. It ran perfect lol... I guess it must be something in the gas I guess? I switch off from premium to ethanol free from time to time so is that it? I think I might just have the spark plugs checked this saturday just to be safe. I redlined it and it was fine though so... weird
Maybe u accidentally put some vodka in the tank?
Runs fine at low temps? But giving you issues at high temps? When you pull the plugs... test the stick coils just to see if they're in spec.

where abouts in Florida are you at? If you live close to Ft Walton, I'd be glad to help you out with the plugs and show you how its done. Way better to learn how to do bike maint and save yourself tons of money.

Lol maybe that ethanol free was vodka... Ill try that when I take it to the shop unless SCMil can help me, I live in the St. Petersburg Tampa area, is that anywhere near you?
By the way, its running fine now... I took it out and redlined it to see if it was gonna do the shit it did in the video, but its back to normal. It was at operating temperature too. I'll upload another video when I get the chance.

St. Peterburg is about 7hrs away. There are some posts and how to's on changing plugs on here and tons of videos on youtube. Changing/checking plugs is really not a hard task at all.
