download the service manual and get the proper tools... spend the day doing it. It isn't hard... just time consuming.

How many miles does the bike have? I have over 40k and don't need a cam chain. :O
Ive did it on my 04 its not that bad of job pretty straight forward. If you have service manual it helps. I suggest gettin valve shim kit, valve cover gasket and set of spark plugs for starters change oil, filter while your at it.

Where can i buy and best cam chain tensioner and shim kit?
I just checked mine last weekend and some clearances were out of spec, but I was a bit intimadated by the adjustment process so I just slapped everything back together and figured that I would just have my local shop do it. But then I used the search function and there is like 14 pages of helpful info on this subject and it's giving me confidence to go back in there and tackle the job. My shop quoted me 300 bucks for the job and all they do is tear into race bikes all year long. They also have shims on hand and will trade you for the ones you need though instead of having to order them.
If anyone is considering doing the job themselves shoot me a PM and I can help walk ya through the process. I even have pics from the last time I did mine.... was gonna do a detailed write up but... meh... I went riding. :D

Ebay is where i got both from they had the better deals.
Can buy shims really cheep on Amazon
Well I completed my first valve adjustment this past week and I am pretty ecstatic that I did it correctly! Haha. Thanks for the tip Strider, the zip tie method is what gave me the confidence to go for it. it was definitely time consuming and a little stressful being it was my first time but well worth it. I'm disappointed in myself for waiting till 24k miles to do it. All of my exhaust valves were .002-.0028 below tolerance, and two intake valves were out of spec as well. I needed 9 shims total. My local dealer traded me shims and charged me $4/pc which I didn't understand because I was giving him quality oem shims for his used surplus and some new hot cams.next time I may just order some oem shims since they come in .25mm increments and the hot cams only come in .50 increments. That's .002", the entire intake tolerance practically ! They weren't as true to size either but I mixed and matched and made em work. Thanks for the help guys, I feel even more in tune with my bike now :)
