Mike Zottmann clinches 2016 EMRA Superbike title.
September 2-4th was the biggest weekend of racing in the 2016 EMRA season at Castrol Raceway. The weekend would feature Rounds 5 and 6 of racing and was full of tight racing and championship points battles coming to an end. Mother nature would throw a twist in the racing by dropping ambient temperatures in the mornings to 5 degrees Celsius and raising them to a chilly and windy 13-15 Celsius under a constant threat of rain.
The cold temperatures and rain-shortened qualifying sessions held on Friday caught a number of riders by surprise, but as always the riders would persevere, finding ways to overcome the conditions and put in solid lap times. Superbike point leader, Mike Zottmann, would claim pole position riding his Bow Cycle/Kawasaki Canada/ZBM Racing ZX-10R, the first step to clinching a second consecutive EMRA Superbike title on this weekend. In 600 Superbike qualifying, Trevor Bernhardt would take pole position riding his Bow Cycle/ZBM Racing ZX-6R.
Saturday’s Round 5 600 Superbike race saw Trevor Bernhardt and Ryan Boddy on his Pet Auto Body Yamaha YZF-R6 quickly gap the field from the start of the race. Ryan would shadow Trevor and match his pace, but never have an opportunity to close in and make a solid pass for the lead. The two would finish the 600 Superbike race separated by 2.6 seconds.
