SuperSprox and RK chain kit....worth it?

1046 Views 11 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  dennisplus
Thinking about buying this sprocket and Chain kit from supersprox. You can see the details in the picture. Thinking of going with the RK Gold 520GXW chain, the supersprox steel/aluminum rear 45t gold sprocket and the 16t grooved front sprocket. I'm wondering if this is worth the $225 price tag...any input?

Not a bad deal. If you ride aggressively, that sprocket will wear quicker. If not, aluminum will suit you fine.

Well I thought these were a combination of steel teeth and aluminum carrier...
Lifetime warranty

steel teeth on an aluminum carrier

$225 is steep but, if you keep the bike long enough to where you would have worn out another set of chain/sprockets then it is money well spent

the thing about their warranty is when it's time, you have to ship them both front and rear sprockets plus the chain so they can make a decision on whether it was well maintained or not. Assuming all is good, they then send you only a new rear sprocket which you will then have no option to purchase another warranty for...
I have bought rk chains for my ninja 300 and my zx6r now for a couple years and I love them worth every penny!!!! If check on sprocketcenter.com and look at their deals I have a lot with the rk chain and rs7 sprockets and they are awesome!!!
I was curious myself if it does wear faster.. I was hoping it was fine since the outer ring is steel correct?
Very nice product and worth the cost.

That being said, if money is an issue you can snag a perfectly suitable EK or DID chain and sprockets kit on eBay.

Guess I should've updated everyone about this purchase. I did go ahead and buy this setup the next day. I chose to pick up at their location in Riverside, Ca because I need to change the chain ASAP. Picked up the 45t rear, 16t grooved front, and RK gold GXW 112link chain. (also received the free t-shirt :) ). Went home and got to installing it. Rear came off very easy of course, took the old one off and slapped the new one on and torqued to spec. Went to take the front off and as many know from my other post ( http://zx6r.com/mechanical-technical/63469-stripped-front-sprocket-nut-help.html ) it didn't go so well lol. So I left the front sprocket on since it still looked to be in great condition and went ahead and popped off the old chain and started putting on the new one. Little did I know the 112 links wasn't enough...didn't matter how much I tried it was too short. Hit up SuperSprox in riverside and explained I ordered the wrong size and asked if he could help me out. He said sure no problem just pay the difference for the longer 116 link chain (even though I had already attempted to put this one on). I get there and he tells me he found a 114 link chain and that he would just do a straight swap because the difference was only a few bucks...this made me so HAPPY!!! lol then I asked if I could switch the 16t grooved I purchased from him for a 15t grooved and again he went and grabbed it and did a straight trade. Once at home I installed the new chain, cleaned and lubed it and I was ready! First of all the sprocket looks amazing! Feels tough but not as heavy as my old steel sprocket. I felt right away what +2 in the back did and loved it! it's been a couple weeks now and I have no regrets. He explained that the lifetime warranty really meant lifetime warranty and that they really don't ask you to send in the old chain and front sprocket along with the rear. Whenever you feel it's time to change just send in the old one and they ship you a new one no problem. Hope this helps. Thanks.

Dope, thanks for the update! I always run sunstar sprockets but I might end up giving SuperSprox a try.

To be honest I'm not trying real hard to hide it. Just didn't want it sticking out like a sore thumb.
