Spark plugs and air filter changed

I just finished changing my spark plugs and air filter on my 2013 ZX6R. I have 10,000 miles on the odometer, so I went past the recommended 7,500 miles for the spark plugs. The spark plugs were still in good condition, with very little carbon build up. I replaced the standard plugs with the NGK Iridium CR9EIX. I figured these will hold me over for at least another 10,000 miles and some.

The air filter was dirty, but not too bad. I replaced it with the same Kawasaki OEM air filter. This filter is just fine for my riding needs. I don't go to the track, so no need for a upgraded air filter. This is my first time doing the work myself, and it was very straight forward. I saved money not going to the stealership, and gained some knowledge in the process. I can pretty much do all the basic maintenance on my bike. I'll be going to the stealership for my upcoming valve adjustment.

That's awesome you did this and saved yourself money. I just did the same 10K service on my bike. I didn't change plugs at the 7.5K, and like you, there wasn't much build up at all. It's ridiculous how much "labor" costs.

Ive noticed the more and more i take my tank off, the less and less i want other people touching my bike(unless it requires special tools/out of my ability). Its nice being able to work on your bike yourself and not have to rely on the stealership to rip you off for basic maintenance. This site is great for learning about your bike. Theres so much knowledge and so many guys here that can help you.

If you do some research and get the couple special tools that you need (maybe $20 worth) you can do the valve shims yourself. I did mine last month for the first time ever and with a lot of help from the poeple on this forum and a little mechanical ability it was not hard. I think the worst part for me was just in my head. Looking back at it i will do it in a heart beat again!!

Throwing in an aftermarket air filter like K&N or BMC is not really much of a "track upgrade" but more of a preferred maintenance item as far as Im concerned. Its nice being able to clean and reuse the same filter over and over rather than having to buy a new OEM one each time. Just my two cents.

How many times do you really need to buy a new air filter. I stated in my original post that the filter wasn't that dirty after 10,000 miles. I have no problem spending $40.00 for a "NEW" air filter every 15,000 miles. You also need to buy the cleaning solution for the K&N on top of the cost of the filter. MMMMMMMMMMM no thanks.

Why cant the OEM filter be cleaned and reused?
I believe because the manual also states to change your OEM filter every 600 miles or so did you check that part of your preferred maintenance? Any filter that gets recommended to get changed out that quick I'll pass and buy one that's reusable the oil isn't that costly either I've bought one bottle 5 years ago not even made a dent in it with 3 different vehicles all of them get cleaned every year
I just dropped $320 on 7.5k mi service. :/ should have done it myself.

The manual states every 11,400 miles for OEM air filter. Like I said, it wasn't even that dirty at 10,000 miles. :nana:

The cleaning solution cost $9 lol.. Ive used it 2x and you can barely tell its been used, itll last a while. I dont wait for "xxxx" miles specifically to check my filter anyway. If i have my tank up and its been a few months/couple thousand miles, ill take a peek and give it a clean so the K&N suits me well.
