I wanna play too!!!!!! :2fingerlol:

Hello!
I've been following this forum anonymously for a few months and finally took the big leap by creating my very own profile…!!

Well, bought myself an old J-model in November and put it straight into storage.
This is my first bike, although I’ve been riding for 10 years using friends bikes etc, mostly CBF600 and BMW F 800 R.

And suddenly this old beauty popped up in the classifieds and I realized that this was the one.!
So its got 35 000 km on it (uhm, I guess that's around 22k miles), and previous owner laid her down so its equipped with knock-off fairings with paint scheme that’s just a bit off, the green doesn’t quite match.

Anyways, I’m aching to take it out of storage, but today another batch of snow just arrived….. :O I've only ridden it 3-4 km to test that engine and gearbox are operational..

Oh, and I see that all of you are into modding your bikes. Well, this a budget project so I will need to learn the basics of changing chain and sprockets, etc, myself, and I’m not sure I will do too many changes on it. We’ll see.! :inlove:

Here it is, sorry for the bad pics. This is from when I picked it up:

Hello and welcome! Congrats on the new bike!
Welcome! The Js are great bikes :bigthumb:
Welcome out friend. I like the bike! you don't "HAVE" to mod your bike. But you do have to "Maintain" it.

You will find this forum a great resource and place to make friends (And enemies...jk :laugh)

In all seriousness....take your time learning and enjoy the bike and of course...stay safe! :bigthumb:

zx6ixxer: Yes, I'm sure this forum will be a great resource for fixing and maintaning the bike.! However, yesterday I ordered a smoked windshield (double bubble??) and I'm about to order some sliders.. Guess the ball is rolling now.. :sigh:

tenko: I'm monitoring the forecast daily, Yes yes, sad, I know... But next week looks promesing over here actually, still it will be stretching it..
Whereabouts do you ride?
The J model was my entry into the 600 class after learning on a cbr125.

I changed chain and sprockets every year since I managed to put on 20,000km per season (5 months long in Canada/Ontario).
Did a valve clearance check and major adjustment at around 50,000km

I really got the brakes to improve by changing to stainless steel braided lines (almost no expansion of the brake hose compared to rubber hoses) and used the common Ebc HH sintered pads. Regular brake fluid flush/bleeding helps keeping up the level of brake power.

Another major change was knock off galfer wave rotors made my BraKing for around $450 the set.

I never tempered with exhaust or jetting the carbs as they were in top shape.

Had so many great experiences with my bike and with some changes it's quite capable too!

Little hint: Hope you got your battery plugged into a battery tender. Depending on how old it is (5yrs it's time to put in a new one) you might have a dead battery within a few weeks of winter temperatures.
