Hello Forum,

I've been lurking on here since I realized my next bike was going to be a Kawasaki. I've only been riding a few years, previous bike was a YZF600R (This is season 2 for me technically as I took last year off). Love the sport and plan on taking advanced riding courses and track instructions this season.

I've been into the automotive performance scene/community for well over 13 years and have co-owned performance shops in the past; but I have always loved sport bikes.

Story:
My co-worker was selling his 2003 Kawasaki ZX6-RR with 22,7xx miles on it, he is the original owner, we negotiated back and forth and settled on a price. Last year he put on new tires, shimmed valves, new K&N air filter, plugs, had suspension gone thru, new brakes (except front rotors, I added those as his OE fronts were cooked).
So on Saturday March 7th, 2015, I traded this:

For this:

But, I can't leave anything alone, so I added some additional parts and now it looks like this:

Mods List
Brakes
  • EBC HH Brake Pads Front/Rear
  • EBC XC Pro-Lite Front Rotors *
  • Stainless Steel Brake Lines
Performance
  • K&N Air Filter
  • Micron High Mount Slip On
  • Zero Gravity Double Bubble Dark Smoke Windshield *
  • Black Bolts *
  • Dual H4 Headlight Conversion with Phillips Extreme Vision Bulbs *
  • Flushmount Front Turn Signals
  • Integrated Rear Tail Light
  • Rear Fender Eliminated
  • Carbon Fiber Tank Pad
  • PSR Click N Roll Adjustable Levers *
  • Werkes USA Black GP Driver Footpegs *
  • Shogun Frame Sliders *
Maintenance/Consumables
  • Michelin 2CT Tires
  • New Battery
  • NGK Plugs
  • Fresh Valve shimming
  • K&N Oil Filter with Rotella T6 Oil *
  • New Dot 4 Brake Fluid

* I've added.

Runs like a top. Goal is to ride the piss out of it this year and do some track days.

Future plans:

Install the levers and foot pegs tonight as I don't like the factory stuff.

Going to Kansas for some riding in the Ozarks this weekend, then hopefully the season will open up in Minnesota.

Eventually I'll add a steering dampener and a Power Commander and call it done. Then its just brakes/tires/suspension swapping and replacing broken stuff.

See you around!

Nice, it came with alot of goodies and looks to be well maintained and kept. A single owner, that's impressive for an '03. $2900, ey? I guess money fairly well spent lol.

Congrats and welcome to the forum.

Close, $3k.

Good deal, its been "down" once, (tipped over in his driveway), he did a great job in patching the right side fender, so its good to go. I am really excited to have it as he takes super good care of his stuff and is very particular (replaced quite a bit of stuff last August to the tune of $1200+).

Very excited to get out riding on it, learn about suspension settings, and get it to the track this fall.
looks like thats actually an R, right? not RR? or was it different back on 03? Its a 636 and I dont like side exhaust but the high mount looks nice.

The most valuable thing is that you know the owner and know he took care of it. Hard to put a price on that.
Welcome! I'm over in WI, about an hour west of Twin Cities. I also have an 03 RR! Never actually seen another one in person. You've gotta check out the 'alphabet roads' of western WI if you haven't already.

Nice mod list on the bike. I'm about to throw SS lines on mine. Look into the 07/08 zx6r/ zx14 front caliper swap if you're looking for more brake upgrades.

I've done a couple track days. DCTC over in Rosemount, MN is nice for a small track.

Maybe I'll see ya around this season. There are quite a few members in the Twin Cities area.

It's a rr, 1 of 2000 (#1862) made in 2003 so kawi can compete, 599cc of glory. Slipper clutch adjustable everything tighter 3-6 gear versus standard 636.
Nice bike and welcome out!

Love those RR's
(You better get on the track with that thing :devious)
Thanks for the warm welcome, took it out for a quick 9 mile spin today, love it!!

I always get confused too, since the 04's are easily distinguishable due to their black frame. This one hurr looks to have the adjustable swinger pivot though.

I have an 04 Zx6R, and love my bike to death and all the work I've done but oh what I would do if it could be a Zx6RR

Congrats on the buy, perfect timing since riding season is right around the corner!
Took it to the ozarks this past weekend as well as visited a friend in kansas city area. Trailered 5 bikes total and put on 570 miles from Thursday night thru Saturday, most miles were 300ish on Saturday.

That's at the lake of the Ozarks. Featuring my best friends cbr1000rr, roommates nighthawk and fz09, and my girlfriends fz6r.
Love this bike.
