2006 zx636, Long story short I think my cam chain is bad and I just put a new head and gaskets and what not on so I don't want to remove the engine from the bike again let alone split the case. You can message me if you want my troubleshooting steps.

Has anyone ever replaced the chain using a master link or without splitting the case? The guy in this video split a timing chain and connected it pretty well, but I have no clue where to buy the cam chain that I can split or where to get the pins to rivet it back together...

My other question was, the crankshaft position sensor timing wheel has a bolt holding it to the cam shaft, but it literally doesn't say anything about removing or installing that in the service manual so I was wondering if that was something that was doable to replace the cam chain as well. I just don't have the space to remove my engine again.

The shop manual for your bike from this site is the best possible reference tool....I don't know what is involved specifically. I would make a wager the problem is excessive wear on the chain guides, due to a manual CCT .

Understand, my point was is it something at the base of the crank case that’s why in order to remove the cam chain we need to split the case into 2
Buddy. Don’t take this the wrong way but if you are this confused you may wanna have someone else tackle this for you it’s not really something you can learn from a forum. But here is a picture

And yes. The crank is in the very bottom of the motor. So doing it correctly instead of that crazy masterlink thing. you have to tear the whole side off. It’s actually not too bad of a job but if you have never done one or assisting in doing one it could be overwhelming. If attempting doing it yourself I’d highly suggest getting the service manual and studying it carefully. But what exactly makes you think the chain needs to be replaced?

And full disclosure here. that masterlink thing maybe the best kept secret and I’m just ignorant to it. and works perfectly fine. I just never seen anything like that and after seeing it I just wouldn’t consider it lol. Timing is one of those things that can’t be “good enough”. It has to be perfect. These motors turn insane Rpm’s it’s amazing the oem shit even holds together as well as it does lol. Get that timing out of wack and shit starts interfering with each other at 15k rpm’s and you have a decent little expensive mess between your legs. .
