Whenever I go to pin it or go even close to full throttle I can feel times when the bike is running full power but half the time the bike stutters and loses power. I have the 2001 zx6r so its running off a carburator. Anyone know whats wrong? Thanks

I am trying to work my kinks out, I have the same bike, you should clean carbs and do a sync, not as hard as it sounds. I just have less power than I should in midrange, but it drives great.

Thanks guys. Ill clean out the carbs and let you know how it goes. Do you know of a video that can help me go through the process?

Pull the carbs off the bike, but do not disassemble the bank of 4.
Drain the fuel from them, and turn them upside down.
Remove the float bowls from the bottoms of the carbs.
Remove the float and needle from each carb. Clean the needle and its seat, the pin that it rides on, and wipe down the float. Set those aside in a safe place.
Remove your pilot and main jets and emulsion tubes (they are the bronze tubes with holes in the sides), make sure all the holes are clean of debris and build up. Use a piece of safety wire or a bristle from a wire brush to clean out the holes if needed, but be careful not to deform the inside surface. Those holes are a very specific calibrated dimension.
Use carb cleaner to spray out all the passages in the carb and wipe down all surfaces.
Reassemble the botom of the carb.

Flip it right side up. Remove the top cover and vacuum diaphragm. Be VERY careful not to get brake clean or any debris on this diaphragm, brake clean will cause it to swell up and deform, and it will not be able to be reused once it is contaminated. Remove the needle, and clean it. Again, be careful not to disfigure the surface of the needle, and if you decide to remove the E-clip on top, make note of its current position and DO NOT LOSE THE CLIP!
Clean the throttle plate or slide (depending on what type of carb your'e working on)
Reassemble the top end of the carb.

before reinstalation, inspect the intake boots. You're looking for cracks and rips in the rubber, or anything that would cause any sort of an air leak between the intake valve and the throttle blade/plate/slide. If everything looks good, then put the carbs back on go ride your baby. See how much better it performs!


...I need to go dig a set of carbs out of my box of extra parts and do a more in depth how-to with pics.
