So............ old news now, but

That 76 HD, zero charging system, when I went to drive it, it would not even crank over the engine

3 hours on a 6amp charger and it started up...........

yep- 12.6v regardless of rpm (battery voltage)

to top that off
no headlight, no tail light
no turn signals
no brake light off the front brake lever---but it does work off the rear brake pedal

he said he sees that dennis kirk sells a whole charging system package for his bike .... good luck with that, have fun

fyi...... the front brake lever is rock hard and it only moves maybe 3/4 inch total travel but the stopping power is about the same as dragging your feet on the ground.. uggg ( I truly feared for my life riding this thing the scant 3 miles I did)

This guy was handed a huge can of worms and with almost zero mechanical aptitude, he has been struggling to ever make this rideable and will continue to--- I understand his whole premise that is was his fathers who is now deceased, but ....................
Well.... hey, atleast it doesn't have 23 year old tires anymore and it now idles on its own with zero choke needed.............

latest pile of cowshit.............

CBR954RR

looks like it has been stored outside on a dirt or gravel for a very long time

"JUST"

a new set tires and do a "tune up".but then questions what a tune up is

it arrived with no oil in the window
brake fluid is super dark- more than 4% water
cords on the rear tire, and obviously aged out on both tires
and when I pulled the airbox off.....ugggg
look at the inside of those throttle bodies

then of course the massive corrosion of everything aluminum on the entire bike and even the chrome plated fork tube inners have rust coming through
ugg.... this thing should have been dismantled and the parts all put through a recycling crusher, seperated and melted

I remember riding both a 919RR, and a 954RR in 2000 or so. Impressive at the time.

I WFO d the 919 going up a clover leaf and hit 165 indicated as I merged onto the empty highway. Felt faster than the ZX11D I had ridden a few years before, and was more compact.
So HD guy tells me after getting his bike home.

"I measured the battery is still has 12.5v. So the charging system is working again."

There are no words to respond with. it departed at 12.65v, you rode it ~20 miles to home (with no lights drawing power) and it now has 12.5v but you think the charging system is working..........

Have fun when the battery dies yet again

Sometimes it is better to simply not reply and waste ones time!

like the 30 or emails and 50 or so text messages over the past couple days from various idiots, just hit BLOCK.....
problem solved

Convert that Harley Into a 32A Evo system 1981-88 I think is the years. Been a while. . But Way cheaper and a shit ton better charging system. And way easier to find the parts for. The only “mod” is change the plugs out and that’s easy to do. Being it’s a full bike and not a chopper. Those ama year bikes had awful stock charging systems anyways. I have installed brand new nos left over stuff and it still be shit
And that way it’s USA made.

By Asians in Taiwan.

lol I have literally bought Harley parts and it say. Proud American made product on the front . And on the back at the bar code it says. Taiwan.

I have a 2022 Triumph T120, I need tires can you do them right now?

"Are those, 150/70-17 and 100/90-18? I do not stock suitable tires in those odd duck sizes. Did you have a brand in mind?"

Can you just help me out and get them?

"I have to order them and it will take a couple days to see them and I require a deposit on a special order, and you have not confirmed sizing or what you even want."

I don't care just whatever you have.

"Since I don't have any and you refuse to answer basic questions, go bother Dennis Kirk or someone else, Motoprimo sells tires and triumphs, so they likely have them in stock"

hours later..........

I just need your help I don't know what I need and they couldn't help me either.

"okay fine ride your bike over so I can look at it and see what you need, you need to get here with the bike anyways"

but it needs tires I can't ride it there.

seriously......wtf

I did tell him to go to uhaul and rent a trailer for 19.99

he said he doesn't have a trailer hitch

I replied with................and no friends with a trailer hitch or truck?????? ok well I cannot help if you don't get it here

I blocked his number......... done wasting my time

easy 25 minutes wasted on stupid and now it is just biting into any possible profit, that kind of stupid is a job for dealerships to deal with where the staff has nothing to do but deal with stupid or stand around with their thumb up their ass

This is why I don't even try to be nice anymore..too many fucking idiots with zero common sense and a sense of entitlement to waste your time
Wait, you make housecalls, right? :)
$100 per hour plus mileage and only if I have time and feel like it....

This was fun.................. (sarcasm)

2008 GL1800A, front tire change on loose wheel and new wheel bearings

broke the blind hole puller "pusher" on bearing 3
thankfully at that point I could just "pound out" the opposing side

Now to see how good that matco or mac warranty really is. if I can even get them to show up here

but the pictures depict......

bearings out--yes there are four in the wheel - so double deep on each side

the old bearings extracted...well 3 of them anyways

brand new bearings, barely any grease at all on one side before the shield is installed and pretty much zero grease on the other side (this is the barely anything side)

packed with good waterproof wheel bearing grease

You can see hand packed and it pushed through to the other side..and the right two show the "some grease but not much" side of the new bearings, and who knows how good that grease even is

all packed and double rubber shields reinstalled on them all-then off to the freezer

the broken blind hole tool pusher.boy was that fun to get apart- had to spred the spread end big enough to get the broken piece out and then get the ball back in..uggg

the wheel once done--yes, there are a couple of scratches from the tool.uggg

the old cupped worn out tire
and his new tire

he is self diagnosing a front end problem (95k or there abouts- I only got a loose wheel from him) and this atleast eliminates the front tire being cupped and worn out and the wheel bearings that supposedly are original (yet they only had a single shield and the fiche clearly states they came double shielded)

I am betting his forks and steering head need service.......... he changed one fork seal about 20,000 miles ago
UGGG

This is a job I feel like I would have better off to turn down......... flat price is just $90 labor, this took nearly 2 two hours all in. or I simply need to change the price to reflect the time, make it $175-$200 labor

I really expected this would be a quick in and out in an hour or so.............. dumb me

I did have break out the torch to heat the wheel enough to get the first bearing on either side to even finally budge

I went in and changed pricing on about a dozen bikes and on a few services. some significantly, some not so significantly ( a few I doubled... like the above GL1800 work)

I don't want to do some of these jobs..... I really hope to price them out of coming here on some of them, but if they do come here- I want to get paid really fucking well for my time, experience and expertise...........
I can do that until I am not booked out months out, once I stop turning away more people than I can take in.... I know I reached my pricing threshold, but honestly I would rather work on a different bike every damn day than work on the same bike multiple days in a row, even if it means less oney in my pocket
I enjoy the turn and burn satisfaction of fixing more bikes than fixing more on one bike......

The stuff I like;
I don't mind if I am not making my hourly rate....but the shitty bikes and shitty owners and shitty work...... I want to double my hourly posted rate!- atleast then I won't feel shitty about doing it!!

and fyi....... that blind hole puller is from SNAP ON, and I bought it brand new in 1983....they have no parts for it any longer but.... thi was the phone conversation with some snap on truck guy who called after talking to corperate since I have not had a tool truck come by in years and years, not here, not in the last two locations either........
and I quote
"I will give you a really good deal on CJ840C, it is usually $1845. I will sell it to you for $1550, I have one on the truck. and I have several metric adaptors you will need too, they are about $50 each"

FUCK NO!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I will do some hunting, and pull that pin out of the tool and get a machine shop to simply make me a new one that is longer and hardened.....
going to be far cheaper than $1845 plus however many extra pieces at $50 each.....uggg

It has been atleast a decade since I have worked on a CBR929 or 954RR.........

I totally forgot what a royal stupid pain in the ass the fucking cam chain tensioner is to remove, the assfucks wedged the fucker tight to the frame, the top bolt hits the frame weld about two turns out and no way to remove it without bending the bolt multiple times between 1/2 turns..........
well I suppose I could have ground off part of the fucking frame and weld........

fucking dumb assfucks!!!

maybe the used the same fucking frame from the 900rr and the bigger displacement pushed it closer? I do not remember the 900rr being like this
and while the early vintage 1000RR's also sucked, they were removeable without cutting the bolt
and now it gets to get a bolt shortened by 4 threads re-installed

the pictures are post removing and moving tons of shit I should never have to move/remove to get to the tensioner.......

fun times are going to be had scraping the gasket too........... uggg

I love my job
I love my job
I love my job

nope still not convinced..............today

There is a channel on YouTube called Subaru guy or some shit. He post some amazing just as good options from the tool trucks. Since matco doesn’t make there one tools he researches and finds the same tools just labeled differently. I bought the matco puller not long ago online for 1/4 of the price and it’s the exact same tool. I have bought a ton of stuff he recommends and haven’t been let down yet. I’m just sick of all the truck guy’s attitudes and laziness when it comes to fixing or replacing my shit. If I pay 500$ for a torque wrench I shouldn’t have to wait 4 months to get it back. Hell I could go to harbor freight and take it back everytime I use and break the junk. I just got a set of German made pliers the Subaru guy referred. 90$ for 4 different sizes and I’m loving these things.

Since you mention subaru........... ( and I did not see any subaru guy etc comparing tools on youtube, do you have a link)

My 6000K 6000 lumens (total) LED replacement bulbs.........

I departed work last night about 930 finally......... so I snapped a couple of in the dark of night shots....

The very last picture is high beams (that hill and fence is only 200' away)
the 2nd to last is no lights- so you can see just ambient light conditions
the 3rd to last is the LED low beams

Here is a more upright view of the cam chain tensioner and bolt access

the last picture is a shorter by 5mm bolt going in.....as you can see one is required to only use fingers in the tiny inaccessible space to get it atleast more than half way in before one can even slip a super thin wallwed and shortened 8mm box end over it to get 1/4 turn at a time

takes atleast 7 minutes easy just to get in that one bolt............ uggg

and having big hands is definitely a hinderence to the job, I have to slip a pinky up in there from the bottom and a pinky from the top and work them together to spin it- likely that same quarter turn or less at a time

The real suck on this job................

since a few of the intakes were less than .001" clearance so I had to somewhat guess how much thinner a shim
yep............
I had to do it all twice (even going a full .005" thinner on those shims I still only had .003" and .004" on those valves that originally measured tighter than a .001" feler gauge could get in --obvious now, they were actually open!!!!! less than zero clearance--)
