Kayaba Forks

I am lucky enough to have a 2003 ZX6RR K1, she's been my race bike and now she's my work horse, if I need to get somewhere, I take the ZX6 but she is getting old now and I need to do a few jobs on her and try and keep her somewhere near original.
My Kayaba forks, which I am led to believe are different on the RR, became to bad to use and I replaced them with a standard set from a 636, I now want to get the originals re-chromed and back on the bike.
There are a number of companies in the UK that offer fork re-chrome and rebuild services, has anyone had experience of these companies? Good or bad would be equally helpful as I would know who to avoid or go for.

Might help to list the company’s you are considering. But as far as rebuild goes. Those are fairly easy to rebuild. I’d assume about any decent shop could get you squared away on that. Especially if it’s a suspension specific shop.

The rebuild side is fairly easy but you do need specialist tools to get the RR forks apart, it is the re-chroming part that I am trying to get feedback on.
Replacing the pitted legs would be more effective than re-plating. Someone somewhere has that stock in hand….. if you wanted to get really fancy have them nitride coated while you’re at it.

try these guys

I have had them make me new tubes for atleast a dozen bikes over the years

Apparently, the forks on the RR when new had a coating on them that was an improvement on the standard 636 & R model forks, without looking up I think it may have been nitride as you said,
In reality, even when I was racing it, I don't think that the improvement was noticeable to a rider of my calibre but I will look at the cost for no other reason that to keep it as close to original as I can.
After I replaced the forks for the supposed lower quality pair I found very little difference in handling certainly riding it on the road,

Thanks for that suggestion, that is the sort of guy I am looking for, one of those geniuses than work out of small units or sheds and make business purely on reputation.
Unfortunately he is the wrong side of the pond, I am looking for the equivalent in the UK.

If you have trackside suspension experts/support, they know who they have to go to when this sort of thing comes up.....
