So I'm with State Farm, only reasonable company for riders in Ontario. They were bought up by Certas/Dejardins and my policy renewal is going up just over $1,000
Been calling around and seems like many companies won't insure a sport/supersport 600cc+ or I'm paying a ridiculous amount. I bought the bike for $2600, no way I'm paying $3,000+ to ride in Northern Ontario
Anyone know of any good insurance companies worth a try? Have your rates been going up as well? Talked to a few who ride cruisers and they've been seeing huge premium jumps in the last few years
The only other company I heard that gave half-decent rates for sport bike riders is TD. It also helps if you have professional designation, such as being a Professional Engineer, as it helps with the rates a bit.
For my 2015 ZX6R I'm picking up next month my insurance guy quoted me $1500/yr which I can stomach.
Allstate is decent from what I've heard but it just really depends on factors man.
If you're under like 30 you get it from insurance without lube..
I'm under 30, clean record, riding for 4 years, have had my G license since 16... I got quoted by Aviva at like $4959 ATM I'm with statefarm and it's looking like I'm going to be paying like 3000 a year... I'll def be shopping around but I don't know, rates are starting to look terrible for supersports, at least in Ontario.
Hey man! Im 21 and planning to get my license this summer. Im planning to get zx6r since there zx25r is not available in north america. How much do you think would the insurance cost? I just got my G-license and have a clean record
HUB i=International. I was with Aviva paying 222$ a month for liability only. 32 years old No tickets no accidents no claims, 3 star rider with course. I switched to HUB cause the broker quoted me 75$ a month, first one came out it was only 57$.. Im a happy guy!
Dalton timmis gave me the best quote for being 20 no tickets at 5g a year but that was too much ... transferred owenership to my father now im paying 1g a year
I got screwed by all state sine they've been bought out. 25 Yr old nurse here. I pay like 2800 for the bike. Allstate quote me 2000 Sonim switching to them.
anyone have any idea how much id be paying? im 17 about to turn 18, getting my G1 and M1 next week, looking to buy a 2010-2016 ZX6r abs, no criminal record(as of right now) lol jk. ive contacted several places but they never get back to me. can anyone help? im looking to buy it as my bday present/ grad present.
In sorry to tell you, no one is gonna insure you on a 6 at 17 years old.... If you do find anyone willing, you're gonna pay 10 grand a year.. At this point in time I'm afraid, it just wouldn't be worth what you'd pay. Besides... I'm not entirely sure you Know what it is you're getting yourself into... Have you ever owned or ridden a motorcycle? If the answer is no.. I'll stop you there Nd tell you right now, this is an idea you ought to let go of for another decade. Also.. I'm really sorry to be that guy, last thing I wanted to do is crush your dreams... Have you looked into a grom or something similar?
he is so right, ontario sucks for motorcycles, im 28 clean record and m1, ive ridden my whole life but insurance doesnt care as their is no proof ( used to get my m1 every year as the riding season isnt that long and it only cost 17 bux) but this year everything has seemed to change, I have a zx6r 636 no one was willing to insure me for less then 5000, i lucky found a loop hole and insured it through my company at a reasonable price, good luck. call dalton timmis if they cant help you no one can, you need at least a m2 with a rider safety course
I can vouch for that too. TD Primmum provides reasonable rates if you bundle-in with car and home insurance. I too was with State Farm for the -15 riding season and the substantial rate increases across the board for sport and supersport bikes unfortunately made it it cost prohibitive to stay with them.
Yea it's so fckin ridiculous! Certas purchased StateFarm and now instead of $1500 my rate will be $2700 after September. I need to find someone else but all quotes I got were pretty high...
Was with state farm until they jumped my rate from 1700 to 3600 per yr. Called hub after reading this ..... 1291/yr
Noone else came close ... and if they did ...they wanted a vehicle as well.
Amazing dude!!... Glad they hooked you up! enjoy. They were also amazing after my crash, so I have nothing but rave reviews...Strange, I know, for an insurance broker!
And I thought my insurance at 26 year old was bad in the uk, sorry to say this 240 quid (315usd) a year, I guess the strict test was worth it, first year at 25 was double that but still nothing like what your paying.
Im paying $55/mth ($661/yr) with Allstate (Toronto).
Lost my m2 three years ago because I didn't renew (due to an accident which was not my fault). Didn't seen to affect the premium at all. My rep was also great though.
Jeez, after reading some of this I feel pretty bad for you Canadians, at least in that area. You're getting absolutely boned by insurance companies. I pay $40/month for both my ZX6R and CBR500R, with full coverage and comprehensive, and a $500 deductible. It'd be even less if I would've went with the $1000 deductible.
When I had my brand new Ducati 1198 that I bought at age 22, I was paying about $70/month, and that dropped substantially after I turned 25. I thought it was pretty good all things considered.
Now if only we could get your healthcare rates here in the US....
Ive herd something like that the rates we have right now were supposed to be the rates 5 years from now and that they re going to drop the rates next year and then we will have the rates we have right now 5 years from then ...
I had the same problem with statefarm, i was with them from 2008 until 2015 ... when they switched companies, my rate went up exactly 1200 ...
I obviously left them, i ended up finding a broker that got me a wicked rate on my 2013 ZX6R .
The broker is Navigators Insurance
They set me up with Wawanesa .. Aside from SF insurance hike .. I was paying 114 a month .... Wawanesa set me up with a rate of 88 per month .. Got my renewal last week, it did go up a little, but still under 100 per month
As someone who lives in Toronto I can say your gonna be hard pressed to find an insurance company that is going to insure a new rider on a supersport...I just had a buddy just get his M2 and he isnt a young guy either(almost 30) with a clean driving record and he bought a 400r and had a hard time finding someone to insure him and when he did it cost him about 3k a year. So my guess would be when you do find someone they are gonna charge you 4k+ a year.
My suggestions would be to try and find a motorcycle specific company there are a few out there just have to look for them. But first I would see if the company you are with for your vehicle will insure you. Often you get discounts for having more than one vehicle with them. If you own a house and insure that with them too it may equate to more of a discount.

Insurance companies in Ontario hate motorcycle riders. I have lost more than a few rider friends because their rates spiked for no reason other than the insurer felt it was necessary because of the bike they had and basically it forced them to sell their bikes which I am sure was what the insurer wanted by raising their rates in the first place.
When I say spike I mean going from 1k to over 2k so again call every company you can think of get quotes and go from there but dont be surprised if they all want a lot to insure you.
If you have to sell you bike I would suggest getting something smaller like a 400 or something that doesnt have supersport attached to it ride it for a few years (Years riding/licensed are the only thing insurance companies look at as far as giving you a better rate besides doing the initial M1 exit course that everybody does). Then try again for a supersport.
