I know Kawasaki's put TC on the ZX6R ever since 2013, but is it worth a shit? Does it work well enough to save you from some potential highsides and optimize that drive out of corners? Asking mostly for track/race use.

Also, did they update the system on the new 2019 generation or is it the same? I'm sure it's not as sophisticate as the systems on the modern ZX10, R1, RSV4, Panigales, GSXR, S1000RR, etc...but is it good enough that you can rely on it more or less?

Looking at potentially getting another 600 again and wondering about the newer gen ZX6R and R6.

Don't know 'bout the '19.

But the short answer is yes. Depending how aggressive with the throttle you are on 'out laps' it will seamlessly keep your butt anchored to the seat (esp. early in the a.m). when there has/is been moisture on the track.

It is also useful when your rear tire has gone off its 'best sell date.' And obviously it's quite appreciated during a wet race/slippy track conditions.

Plus, you can turn it off anytime you'd like.

Tim's got a good amount of experience with the TC on his '19, especially when we were trying (and failing) at chasing a good setup for his Moto America round. Obviously I don't know what he felt, but he seemed real happy to have it when it kicked in a few times that weekend. Personally I think he's undermining his own riding skill and think he would have been fine without it, but I guess we'll never know for certain if it actually saved him in those instances or not.

I got the TC on the new R6 to kick in a few times while on a demo bike with the OEM tires, of course the TC setting was the most intrusive. It did not feel as refined as the R1, which I forget what setting it was set at when I rode, but seriously, aside from seeing the dash light up, I didn't know it was working. I'm sure if I had more seat time on the R1, I'd have a more refined feel as to when it's kicking in. If I had to completely guess and speculate, I'd say the R6 and ZX6 are probably on the same level. Good, but not great to the level of the new liter bike electronics.

As far as a requirement if getting a new bike...ehhh. Maybe it's cause I haven't had a bike with it yet, but I wouldn't say it's a must have. He still rolls plenty fast around the track on the endurance bike that doesn't have any of that stuff on it.

Any idea if Kawasaki changed anything on the electronics systems for the 2019 model compared to the 2013-2018? Did you guys ever race one of those previous gens at all? Or did Tim skip that gen completely?

By the sound of it, the TC systems on the new R6 and ZX6R are OKish, in the sense that you can't be stupid with the throttle or it'll still high-side you to the moon, but it can help out in some situations and certainly doesn't help to have.

I've played with the settings on mine (2016).
@3 it kicks in far to early and effects drive out of corners
@2 it does start to come in when the pace increases. I feel its still too early.
@1 i have felt it once or twice. Not intrusive enough for me to switch it off completely. I had only one big slide (on my last outing on a NEARLY dry track) but bike corrected itself without that big kick out the seat thing you sometimes get.

If you go Woolich flash you can further restrict the amount of intervention (certainly my mate did that on his zx10r) and setting 1 became the new setting 3 and setting 1 was almost off

I never owed the 13-18 model electronics so I can't compare. In fact I have never owed a bike with TC before now.

Otto Man was spot on as the factory TC settings are very general and not as refined as the liter bikes of today.

It's a great starting point and a very useful tool for racing if you have the time and money to spend dialing it in with Flashtune or other.

I have only rode mine on #1 setting. Never rode the bike in the wet at this point.

I did have the rear kick out a few times at Pittrace coming up out of the bowl (a place everybody spins the rear) and the TC activated and corrected the bike without me letting off the throttle. I was happy at that point. That said, I did end up on my A$$ in T12? (the uphill after crossing back onto the old section). I was asking far more out of the system than ever and I was carrying lots of lean angle. It didn't like that.

It's taking me a bit to trust the TC... as before my TC was my right wrist. However I think it is for the good when properly set up.

Now what Kawasaki really should have included on the new bike is "Ride by Wire".

Thanks for the input! I didn't know you crashed the new bike already. Thought this one would make it longer before it gets close and personal with the ground :wink

They still don't have ride by wire on these?? That's surprising. Yamaha had that on the R6 for years!

Even though the rear came around.. simply little low side really. Didn't even bend anything. I never let go of the bars and pulled the bike up on top of me to protect the tank. Funny actually. There are a few pics somewhere and it was on MA highlight reel as I brought out the red flag with less than a minute to go in the Q2 on Saturday morning stopping Fong and Prince from setting their best flier lap and bumping the grid even smaller. :laugh

I like the TC. I keep it on setting 1. No way wire by throttle can be done without increasing the low 9,9k price tag.

TC3 is a do anything to get the bike under control-STP, timing retard, missfire
TC2 and TC1 are virtually identical. TC2 intervenes sooner on the low end, TC 1 intervenes more up top.

With Woolich you can dail back the intervention on the low end and get rid of it on the top end.

Don't even try to make 3 work. Use 1 and 2 to customize it.

I have toyed between running the TC1 level and turning it off altogether due to it being a bit too intrusive at times, however I ended up keeping it at TC1. It has helped me in a few scenarios where the tire was going away and I was asking a bit too much of it.

TC seems like a very pointless feature on a middleweight. I understand it's great for adding value to to class of bike that hasn't had any real step forward in the better part of a decade. Feels like the manufactures are scrambling to keep the slowing market from completely falling on it's ear. Glad to hear it actually works though!
