Had a 2004 FZ6 which I sold at 46,000 miles. I put most of the miles on it and kept it well maintained. The motor was just as strong the day I sold it as when I bought it. It was starting to have an issue with the throttle position sensor but that was all. My CBR600RR had 18,000 miles on it and was in fantastic shape. A few years ago was looking at GSXRs and was amazed at how many of them are out there with 40 to 50,000 miles. Id rather have a bike with a lot of miles from someone who maintained it than someone who didn't maintain a low mileage bike. They are not indestructible but the Japanese 600cc 4 cylinders are great engines.
