Ok I have an 09. I still have a gnarly shift issue bike doesn't want to down shift from 3rd to 2nd ans sometimes2nd to 1st. I have next week off. Thinking about taking this project on. Wondering can shift forks actually be changed by dropping the pan/ pulling forks through the bottom. Any insite on this would be great.

09 has a cassette transmission. Just yank that puppy out, it'll take no time.

What exactly is it doing? If your shift forks were bad it would be more than likely be popping out of gear versus not going in.
Hum thanks man. And like I stated it just wont down shift from 3rd to 2nd. And if I play with my reving it will sry into second.
As said in the other topic I've got an 08 cassette with the same gearing that will slide right in :devious

Ok cool how much and does this sound more like a whole transmission issue or maybe something else.
In a all seriousness try everything else first. Do you have aftermarket rearsets? Have you tried tightening the clutch cable more/adjust the clutch lever pull distance? Have you tries flipping it to GP shift or from gp to normal to see if help?

As for the trans itself its hard to know without seeing it.
Ok thanks man and I have after market rear sets had about 300 miles on them with no issues. Then bam on my way home from work it got weird. Tried adjusting everything and lubing everything. I am going to try switching it back to standard shifting tomorrow.
And it's only then that it happens? It acts normally all the other times?
Only in down shifting. And it started doing it out of no where. I am really stumped on this. If tranny pulls out that easy I will pull it this week and see what I find.
its pretty simple to get it out, be sure the trans is in neutral:

youll need to remove the front sprocket

the C-clip that holds shift linkage(from the actual shifter through the motor to the shift star).

you will also need a clutch basket "wrench" to hold the basket and take an impact/breaker bar to the nut that holds it on. Its not front sprocket tight, but its on there pretty damn good.

get the basket off, remove the small gear(dont even remember what it does to lol) and pull the shift star/linkage, pay attention to its orientation, the small u shaped dip is neutral.

remove the 8(?) bolts around the transmission plate and it slides right out. however, be sure to pull the gear position sensor first, and pull out the two brass nipples and springs, if you dont, and you pull the trans, they will probably fall into your fucking oil pan and are a bitch to find, even with a magnet on a stick.

Edit: these bolts are Torx! i think its a 55 but id have to look when i get home.

I know this sounds silly but before you rip apart your transmission I would take a quick look at the rearsets first....

I know on my B1h I once had similar shifting issues where I couldn't shift up/down and was stuck in a gear....bought it home....took a look at the Shift level (by your foot)....was stiff for some reason...I sanded it a bit and greased it up....after that was smooth shifting (click..click..click)

May not be your issue but just saying... :O

Yeah the whole reason I have this extra trans is because I bought it thinking mine was fucked, swapped only to have the same issues, turns out the cheap bearings in the Chinese rearsets failed and were twisting/binding causing hard down shifts. But then again my issue wasn't for one gear it was for all the downshifts.

Hum thats interesting. Did it happen quick or was it gradual? And it seems to just be down shifting into 2nd and 1st for the moment. I check and lubed all bearings in rearset I am just stumped and i hate not being able to ride.

For me it happened out of nowhere...started small though...like I kept "missing" shifts....then very very quickly it got to a point that I just could not shift....was practically stuck in like 4/5 gear riding local streets home

And im not sure...this sounds odd....try throwing it up on a stand and see if it has the same issues? :O
I will definitely check all possibilities. Ive taken apart rear set and lubed every moving part but checking twice never hurts .

Ok all bearings in rear set are good switched to standard shifting. Will ride it tomorrow and keep this updated.
Thanks for the help guys. Tranny super easy to pull 1st time only took about a hour. So its the actual gear selector the part that turns the star nut one of the ears broke off found broken piece and on order will update. When 100 percent fixed.
