I DID! For my second bike I was so eager to get riding because I was looking out my window and saying to myself, "oh man the weather is nice."

I went riding last night for a while to get used to the size of an 04 636 because that thing is a chunky thing compared to the 06 and 07 models.

The bike fell on me twice because I tip toed on my bike and lost my balance on a hill... twice!

I took it to Aurora Kawasaki and the guy laughed at me when I told him I wanted to lower the bike. He basically looked at me like I was an idiot for buying this bike.

I bought this bike from a dealership and I don't understand how this bike is THAT fucked up and it deserves someone to laugh at me for even investing in it.

Bondy was there to help and he just said, "keep your head up and just do some work on it."

I guess that's what I have to do now... work on my bike.

I am so upset.

For this being my second bike... you would expect it to be somewhat decent.

at least I can still ride it... and maybe one day some guy with a really nice 2010/11 Ducati can let me ride it ;)

I cant believe someone at the dealership would have the audacity to laugh at you. most dealership employees are useless. I never get my work done from the dealership. Most of the time they are useless SOB's. I got to people who have their own shop and have years of experience.

What problems does the bike have? Because its bigger? or am i missing something about this year 636?

I have the same year bike. I bought it lowered and brought it back up. it sucks lowered. you have to fight it to get it to lean into any turn. It feels heavier than a newer GSX-R 1000 that i sat on.
everyone who sees mine loves it thought. Why are you hating?

I think there might be a coolant issue. Not real sure. The brakes don't seem to work very well. I noticed some oil like stuff on the front wheel. Can't figure out where that came from. Probably not a good thing though. While I was out last night, still felt what felt like a wobbling issue. The faster I went, the worse it got. I duno. After going to the dealer, I just don't feel real good about my bike now.

Wow! Scarey story. Maybe I should stick with my 250! This Bondy3 fella sounds pretty smart, I think you should always listen to him!!

Dude, the only person who really needs to love your bike is you... When I bought mine it needed some work cause the guy before me obviously had too much money and no idea how to treat a new bike... it had some blemishes and some attention it needed... which I had the pleasure of giving it..

Investing some time and attention in your bike makes it all the more yours... you'll get to know every little thing about it and become even more attached...

F*ck the haters, especially if the work at a stealer-ship... most of those guys are useless cocks that just hate the world anyway.

Get on it, and ride the shit out of it... thats what its all about anyway!

Did you check see if the bike was ever written off ? I have a very bad feeling that someone has had a decent spill, done some frame damage and just "fixed it up" for sale.... It honestly doesn't sound safe bud, I wouldn't go too quick or get too testy with it until you have a mechanic check it over for ya.

Firstly though......
Have you bled the brakes at all ?
Are you losing coolant and/or getting high temperatures ?

Try bleeding the brakes. The leak on the front wheel could be the fork seals, one of mine is blown and doing the same. Why do you think theres a coolant issue? is it running hot?

I went to look at my G1 with my uncle who has had a few bikes in his life and works on cars a lot in his spare time. I knew he wasn't a bike expert but, thought if anything major was wrong then he would notice.

I decided to buy the bike in the end and it seemed like it was running fine. I then ran down the battery twice by driving around with the lights on and after testing, found out there was alternator problem. At the same time as this, the bike started steaming and some friends helped me diagnose a faulty radiator.

I have now changed the radiator and the heat stays at the right level :). The alternator issue is hopefully fixed but, the voltage is still below what it should be... Will have to wait and see how it pans out. It made me so worried about it that I had to take the bike in for a service. Cost me 200quid to find find out that everything else is fine but I feel a lot better now.

I knew next to nothing about my bike before and the experience has really helped me get to know my bike. In a way it was a blessing in disguise. If I had something perfect I wouldn't have learnt anything. Get a haynes manual and get cracking, it's so rewarding! When you get stuck, everyone here helps!

Over the last number of years I have had more than 25 bikes, only 2 of them were new. I have only ever bought 1 used bike that I bought and did not have to work on and odly enough that was the ZX6R.
But as said Lumiera the only who need to enjoy the bike is you, some of the things you have discovered may be not so hard to fix.
As for the wobbling I had the same sort of issue when I bought my R1 and it turned out to be the front wheel needed to be balanced.
As for thebrakes that could just be air in thelines, or maybe you need to put steel braided lines on.
There are a number of great write ups on this site for how to repair or upgrade just about everything on your bike, and some great people here to ask.

Bottom line is dont let the opinions of other people you dont even know change your opinion of your bike, make it yours and the way you want it.

You think an '04 636 is chunky compared to an 06 or even an 07? :suspect:

I'll admit I've never seen an 04 so you might be right. Just interesting considering my 05 (same body as 06) seems a bit bigger than most newer 600s and the 07 looks about the same if not bigger.:O

My current bike though is used and I've had to do a few things here and there. It's been a bit frustrating at times but I agree that the more work you do on it, the more it becomes yours and you know little things about it. Plus, you get the added excitement of working on your own bike if you do the work yourself.

The 1000 are lighter than the 04 zx6r... by a few pounds for whatever reasoning may be. Kawi likes their bikes heavy.

And the 04 is not bulky at all... My 05 gsxr is wider than my zx6r. So idk how far his reasoning goes on saying its a bulky bike.

I've bought new a new bike, and realized it had a major problem and the manufacturer wouldn't stand behind it. That was last year with the wife's brand new Triumph Bonneville SE, that would shift only sometimes. Not good. After three months of progressively more tense encounters between myself and the dealership, they eventually gave my wife an identical, new bike to replace they one they sold her, that to date had six miles on it.

Used bikes ... My ZX-6R which I bought used turned out to be lowered (I should have noticed) and the speedometer is WAY WAY off. Neither is a big deal I suppose. Not like the new Triumph not being able to shift.

I've also purchased used, a 2008 Ninja 250, my son purchased a 2008 R6, both of which have turned out to be A1 gems.

Tomorrow, we are going to Duluth MN to purchase a 2008 SV650 for the wife ... her second bike. I hope that turns out as well as other used bikes we've purchased.

Rule of thumb when buying used is to replace all fluids regardless of what the seller tells u. You'll also get a chance to inspect closely what may be off. I'd stop riding that thing until u figured out what's leaking on your front tire & what's causing the wobble. As far as lowering the bike that's personal preference but I suggest u ride it as is & get used to putting 1 foot down at stop lights. U should just walk the bike on inclines. it's alot better then dropping it. Lowering is not hard to do but it's not cheap either

Just bought an 06. It was lowered as well. Felt ok that way but was way to upright on theside stand. Back to factory ride height and loving it
