Just wondering what aftermarket grips & bar ends everyone is using, IF you are using aftermarket grips. I haven't ever thought of getting aftermarket grips, but I am needing some mods to do over the winter that won't break the budget.

I don't want any hard grips like aluminum grips. I want something soft for my hands to grip with my Speed & Strength gloves.

I would love to have some Kawi green grips & ends, but I haven't came up with any. The other two options for color would either be gold or red. I say gold, because the fork tubes are gold. I say red, because my fork tube caps are anodized red. So I'm not sure, because once the OEM green caps are available from the 2015's, I'm probably going to buy those, because they look awesome.

I really like the looks of the Driven D-Axis bar ends, but when I ride, I put half of my palm on the bar end and the other half on the grips. It's how I have always ridden and it's more comfortable to me. It allows me to stabilize myself incase I do HAVE to put weight on the bars. Maybe others ride like this? So the Driven ones wouldn't allow me to do that.

So, I'm thinking of going with gold as my spools are the Driven gold spools. I also want to go with the Driven D-Axis bar end mirrors in gold, but like I mentioned above, I wouldn't be able to place my hands on the bars with it.

So long story short. What is everyone running? Pictures? Review of them?


Here is the most recent picture of my bike. This was taken a couple months ago, so I have added a couple things since then. Never again will I have to worry about the flash of my camera, reflecting off the yellow reflector that is on the fork cover where it says "KIBS." I just ordered a pair of new bolts that are the part numbers for the bottom bolts and took the reflectors off.

I'm not saying the budget is tight, I'm saying I want to do several mods over the winter to keep my busy. Stuff like grips, mirrors, spools, sliders, etc.. A bunch of stuff added up to be quite a bit of cash. I have already done quite a bit of big money stuff already. Money isn't tight

I have motion pro grips because they came with my throttle tube. (Recommended if you are looking for a nice relatively cheap mod the adjustable cams are nice)

I don't run bar ends. No real reason just never put them on my new clipons. Never had an issue. I ride like a pansy. I've had head shake with and without. I'd rather just use throttle control to keep it in check.

Colored grips suck. Just something else you have to keep clean. Get Motion Pro or Renthal grips. Best grips you can get IMHO.

There are a million bar ends out there. I like the factory ones best. They are the heaviest. But, I'm not running any since putting the Renthal clip-ons on the bike. Just the caps the clip-on bars came with. Might change that at some point but my first choice would be to figure out how to mount the factory bar ends on them.

Why not paint the factory bar ends? You can get any color you want and just change it if you don't like it down the road?

I run Renthal grips, always have, that's really the only choice for me. I'm partial to the kevlar ones for the feel and durability. I tried dual compound this year and they were cool but I prefer the feel of the kevlar.

+1 to the motion pro throttle, that is a great mod that doesn't break the bank, I love the 50mm cam



edit: Not a fan of bar ends, that money would be better spent put towards a set of clip ons.

Clip ons come in different styles I have WoodCraft Clip ons cuz I got mad and threw my bike at the ground mi corner and they were cheaper than factory. They are lighter than factory and surpisingly enough the buzzing at 8k rpms in top gear was reduced some. They also are modular the tubes can be bought seperatly so if I get mad and throw my bike at the ground again it won't cost as much to fix.

Heli bars are another option they will change the reach and how much pressure you put on the grips.

The Gold accents wood look sweet.

Well... more options for fit. I have the apex adjustable. I am 6'1" and the stock ergos are a bit tight for me. For some reason a few mm here a few mm there and lots of test fitting made it a lot more comfortable.

Changing the angle of the clipons can change control authority quite a bit also.

While we are on the subject. After market rear sets are nice. Again adjustability, but also more traction on the peg. I did not realize how slippery the stock were until i tried woodcraft. Now those will be on any sport bike i buy.

I'm running the helibar clip-ons because the PO had installed them. They accommodate a more upright position and I love them. Haven't even thought of moving back to the OEM's. As for grips, I currently still have the OEM's installed, but will be moving to Renthal when it's time to replace them. I've ALWAYS used Renthal on all of my bikes from dirt to street.

So I have the D-axis bar end mirrors. And FYI they will sun fade black to purpleish, and u won't be able to use the bar ends u referenced with the mirrors they require a detent on the bar end to mount them, had to order the bar ends for the mirrors that are made for them. See pics below..

I am actually quite surprised by the stock pegs on the 2013+ ZX's. Much grippier than my R1. I've had a few people ask what brand my stock pegs were. Told them they were stock, one didn't believe me.

I plan on upgrading to some rear-sets. I just haven't decided on what brand yet. I know Woodcraft is praised highly. I've thought of Sato and others. Probably will be going with some with either gold accents or are completely gold. However, I am not basing my decision solely based on looks either. So that decision is still being worked on.

Well the factory windscreen on my bike is already tinted, so I have been fine with it for the summer. I have spent over $3600 this year on my 6R on other stuff.

A Puig Double Bubble Smoked Screen is actually on the list of things I'll be getting for my projects this winter. I was going to get one, but I wanted to test out the Escort Solo 3 radar detector, without investing in the costly mounts, so I mounted the windshield mount on the windscreen during my test to Dallas and back, (300 mile trip one way,) and the actual radar detector left indentions in the windscreen. I thought it might, so I didn't order the windscreen yet.

With the factory windscreen, it's impossible to tuck enough to see through the windscreen, but I'm sure the double bubble will be in my line of sight tucked.

Block off plates in you haven't already, that's a fun mod to do. And my handle bar setup is renthal clips ons with renthal grips and renthal bar ends as well. And I to keep my pinky or a part of my hand on the end of the handle bars.

Already got the Driven Block-Off plates. Had to with my Bazzaz Z-AFM.

Still trying to figure out this damn Bazzaz thing out. It has a bug with the 2013's. It surges from 3krpm-5krpm. And it's backfiring on deceleration and I can't figure out why. It's at 12.5 AFR. It's richined up! grrr But that's another topic for another day.

I will be getting my bike tuned in Oklahoma City. A friend of mine, who just got a 2014 Hayabusa, took his in. He works solley on Busa's and ZX-14R's. Works alot with 400-500+hp turbo bikes. His brother is the Kawasaki tuner. Going to get it flashed and get me a few Bazzaz maps made. All for under $250.

They aren't readily in your field of view while riding but U don't have to turn I our whole head to see them. I do think they give u a better field of view behind/beside you.
And if they can mount on the inside of those bar ends that would be great. FYI my gold Driven block offs haven't faded but the gold and the black have both faded on the bar end mirrors

I really like oury dirt bike grips. Soft and sticky but with big blocks of material so they last instead of some surface knurling that wears away. Also thicker and the same thickness all the way down. The thickness and softness soaks up vibes too. Took a while to get used too but my faves now.
