Got hit by a car yesterday [Minor Accident]

Hey folks,
So yesterday I was on the 110 South in LA on my way home around 6:30 PM. I was on the Fast track going pretty slow since there was lots of traffic. There was s car up ahead on the lane to right of me with its blinker on. It had it on for a while, I was in the middle of the lane just in case, so I could be seen. I'm going about 30 and they're moving about 5-10 MPH, out of no where. They try to merge into my line very abruptly and stuck me. My mirror got pushed back and I essentially bounced off the car but kept my balance. I couldn't maneuver too well because his mirror knocked my arm off the grip. I got control and stopped, check that I was OK and the I signaled him to pull over to the shoulder which I began to do. I get to the shoulder and check myself out again since I got hit in the arm and then I looked the bike over. Nothing major but it did get scuffed on the side where I was struck. I look around for the car but I don't see him, FML. So they're gone now and I have none of their info.

I'm fine and the bike is still working fine with minor cosmetic damage (might post some pics tomorrow.) My question to you guys is, should I make a claim with my insurance (Geico) or do I just leave it be since I have nothing?

First time in an accident so your advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time

Damn man good thing u didnt go down. That must have been scary. Ive actually gone down on the 110 right at the beginning at the fast lane haha....shit must be cursed! I say make an insurance claim but dont tell em u were splitting lanes. Say some random car merged into ur lane super quick and u struck their side. Then they took off.

The splitting lanes part will only make shit more difficult.

Also...next time make them pull over first before u do. Some *** did the same shit to my dad the other day and took off on him.

How does a car get away doing 5 to 10 mph :O. You could have checked yourself for a full minute and still been able to see him

I wouldn't make a claim even if my bike was totaled. But that's just for my kind of insurance, no idea how it works on the states.

If i was to make a claim, I'd be paying higher rates for the next 5yrs. So in the end I didn't save any money and got an entry in my file for life!!!
You should make a police report asap which would indicate a hit and run. Then, talk with your agent and see if making a claim will have an impact on your rates. My guess is that it would be covered under an uninsured driver, but IM just guessing.

I had a buddy this happened to. It will not be covered under uninsured. If they stayed and said they did not carry coverage then it would be uninsured { I bet they took off due to not having coverage}. Insurance will claim hit and run and make you pay your deductible. If they have no coverage then you would not have to pay deductible. It sucks , I am glad you are okay. I would stay away from filing a claim if possible and fix it / pay for it yourself. I am willing to bet it will impact your premium. In Indiana you have to prove financial responsibility for your vehicles of face suspension of your drivers lic. Even if you are not driving or own a car. they will call it laps in coverage and charge you a higher rate.
Ride with a helmet camera from now on. Seriously, 100 dollar investment for a decent one. Aside from that, police report and maybe insurance if the damage is more than your deductible.

Or go out of pocket and use it as a lesson learned....I just recently did that.

That was the speed before he got onto the fast track. Speed picked up to 40-60 MPH there.
Yeah, I always have my Sony Action cam running on my helmet when riding (really for my motovlog vids but also just in case of incidents like this)...
i wouldn't make a insurance claim. if its fixable for cheap id just fix it out of pocket. cuz if you do make a claim your rates are probably gonna go up and they are gonna put a accident on your title so it might be harder to sell if you ever end up wanting to sell it. but thats just me. i actually was in a accident to the other night car side swiped me and got my tail fairing and my right side peg and took off. got banged up pretty good but the bike is fixable for cheap and i never ended up dumping it so I'm alright with it lol
Damn that sux glad you're ok. The bike can be fixed.

First off.. glad you're oK.... secondly.... don't bother with a claim if it's just cosmetic and you have no other information. You're insurance will just go up.

Third and most importantly. Slow down when splitting lanes. 10-15mph faster than what's around you. If they were doing 5-10mph and you were doing 30... that's too fast to make any decent evasive maneuvers.

Again... glad you're ok and not road pizza. L.A. has a way of making motorcyclists lives suck ass.
I'd agree probably not worth filing a claim, unless there is significant fairing damage, and medical involved. Consider it a wake up call, and possibly purchase a go-pro like setup to record the next one.... almost certainly going to be another; hopefully you'll catch it before you make contact.

Glad this one came out well.
