First Trackday March 28 at Jennings

Pretty excited. Took me about a year to acquire all the gear and get everything I needed. Anyone else going to be out that way on this date? Figured I'd camp out Friday night that way I'm already there and ready to go Saturday morning.

Any tips or advice on that track? My bike is at 100%, new oil/filter and SS brake lines with EBC HH pads recently. Only problem may be my tires. Worse case I end up buying a set there. How crazy are tire prices at the track?

Will more than likely update with questions or concerns in the days leading up to and will of course update with my experience afterwards. Thanks for reading.

Not sure about Jennings, but I'd try to snag a set and get the rubber on before getting to the track. Tires are generally more expensive at the track. Also put some miles and get a feel for the tires ahead of time.

Good luck! Keep us posted.

Personally i wouldnt go to the track on questionable tires. Unless youreally dont mind the fact thats its possible you have to change them after one session. As long as you dont mind that then you will be fine.

Only other thing is, you said new pads recently. how recent? not brand new right? you have broken them in?

and good luck have fun and take pics :)
I'll be there next weekend.
tires depends at the track. depends what tires you are buying?? DOT race/trackday tires? or hypersport street/track tires?

some organizations might be cheaper or around the same cost of online vendors... alot of them offer free mount and balance when you purchase tires from them...

when you go to tech, they focus more on the side of the tire than the center. rule of thumb at least 70% tire life.

If its your first track day... go out there have fun and be open minded to learn the track life. There's alot to absorb but take it as it comes in...

I currently run Q3's and would go with those again so I wouldn’t have to worry about getting familiar with them thankfully. I found a set for $235 shipped so I may pull the trigger.

The tires are Q3's with a slight flat spot. Sides of the tires are practically brand new. Hoping I can get them rounded back out at the track. The pads are pretty new. About 80 miles on them. I'm still breaking them in and plan to put about 300-400 miles between now and then.

400 miles of upright-ish street riding aren't too bad for a track day. Especially at the Novice level.

Should clarify, 3k miles on the Q3's very familiar with them. Plan on getting ~400 miles on the new brake pads.
I am overly cautious but I Def wouldn't do a TD with 3k miles on my Q3s

Sorry... should've done a better job of reading.
Yep, would go for new tires!
New tires it is then, thanks gents. I'll pick them up at the track and have them mounted and balanced there.
Be careful after. Be sure to get them broken in before going at speed. Fresh tires and new lean angles are no good.
Youre gonna have a great time. Jennings is a blast. If you don't want to camp at the track I'm about 20 minutes from Jennings(above) so you're welcome to stay if you like dogs and bring beer :p

Jennings is a great track, it will eat tires though. I did 8 sessions on a set of Q3s(7 session to a track day) and had about 50% of the side of the tire left. I was riding novice and they were my 1st and 2nd track days before I crashed out during the second day.

Tires were about 320 a set plus mounting if I remember right, when I was there in September. I think they were GPAs but can not remember.
Tong,

Are you on the svrider forum? I saw someone with a similar, maybe the same screen name over there. if so post up if you are doing any days at VIR or CMP

Sorry to threadjack.

Hell yeah man thanks for the offer :cheers. I'm heading out there with a couple buddies who are riding as well so we'll probably end up camping out there. If they bail though I'll hit you up. What’s your beverage of choice?

Thanks for the info, so they did charge for mounting, even if you purchased from them?

They may have, honestly, now I'm trying to remember and I can't for the life of me. Either way, if you can get some Q3s before you get to that track that would be cheaper. They can mount them at the track for cheaper then buy tires there(if the tire vendor is even there, he was not one of the days I went). They can mount tires regardless of if the vendor is there.

If it was me I would get the Q3s and either have them mounted before getting to the track, which is exactly what I did. Or get the Q3s and have them mounted when you get to the track. The rubber they sell at the track when I was there was overkill for novice level.

Thanks for the info Tong. Just ordered a set of Q3's from moto mummy. Just so happens they are having a sale on Q3's. $228 shipped if anyone is looking for a good price.
There is a $50 rebate that just started for the Q3's. Attached is the rebate form.

Thank you, unfortunately though, the rebate starts on March 1st. I missed it by 2 days...
