So today I went on my first BIG ride like 3-400 street bikes. Yeah they did the whole shut the freeway down stunting had the police escort thing. It was pretty nuts. Couple people got yanked one guy in cuffs. I took off after the first stop. It was a cool experience but won't be doing it again. Also left the club I was in exactly 6 days after being fully patched in. Ha! Crazy. All that time away from the fam is lame. Parking lots freeways. Harley's bleh. Forgot who I was. An it was a Christian club. Anywho. It was fun. Might do the club thing again some day but not when my son is two. I got some poor video so I'm not gonna upload plus I think I recorded I too high a def anyway.

Yeah, it's definitely an experience to do a few times. However, as you said, club life is tough on the family in a lot of cases. This is especially true if you are giving the 110% expected of you. I have been involved with one of the largest sport bike clubs in the world, I founded a state chapter, and even worked on their corporate team....needless to say it consumed a great deal of my time, and like you I wasn't always in total agreement with the execution of some of their "activities". A couple years ago I stepped away after my "brothers and sisters" attempted to throw me under the bus, which showed me that the brotherhood/sisterhood only ran as deep as the money. I have been toying with the idea of returning to the scene, but I don't think it will be with my former club. I have actually been giving thought to starting a Veteran focused sport bike club. :O

Yeah. I was asked to stay and offered more responsibility but that was the complete opposite of what I want. If it was a club where it was all about riding and having a good time then sure. But i don't want to HAVE to go to stupid parking lot events to be seen so that you can wear patches on a vest and have a club. I could get in on a charter that's just starting now and make it that but that would mean a lot of time and effort when I could just go ride instead.

The guy that does my tattoo work has been trying for years to get me to join the club he runs talking about you only have to do this many events and so many rides a year, I have a wife and kids that I hardly see now couldn't imagine trying to add in time for a motorcycle club. I'm more of call a friend or two if they don't want to go riding then just jump on the bike and take off when I want to.

I don't understand? You have to give up your family to join a motorcycle club? WTF?

well now that I've read other's posts it's coming clear.

LOL @ the thought of some club telling me I had to be at an event. I'll save them all the trouble and preemptively kick myself out.

You are expected to be at So many events and go on so many club rides each year, that does cut into my family time
Yeah I can see how it would if there was a big demand. I just use meetup groups. You're expected to show up to 1 ride every 45 days or you get removed. I ride most Saturday mornings so that's easy ;)

But then I'm fortunate in that I get to work from home a lot and be home in time for family dinner most nights so I get a lot of family time.

That sounds absolutely fucking awful. 2-3 bikes is enough. Sounds like a massive circle jerk fest. You couldn't pay me to ride with groups like that. Gives all bikes a bad name

Don't know if you were in a MC or RC, but a local RC is recruiting me. They're probably the coolest I've ever run across.

They're like a bunch of married guys with kids looking for an excuse to sneak out and ride. They suggest at least two rides a month, but say family and work always comes first.

No dues, no presidents, no politics. You just gotta have a bike. It's a nationwide RC too.

I'd never consider joining a club, but these guys just wanna have barbecues and ride. lol

I just don't get "clubs".

All it seems like is a bunch of guys who want to be noticed and get attention. It's not about the ride, it's about the group and getting attention in a parking lot.

Whatever happened to riding to better your technique? For the love of the ride?
