Another LED option for headlights has come up

I think this may work for my '09; I have some questions out to the mfg. The copper braided heat sinks are much too large to be effective, in my professional estimation -- I've done quite a bit of work with heat sinks, and this isn't an ideal sizing.... they should be possible to be cut down in size.

Does look like they'll fit, compared to 40's LED.

I think the area behind the socket may be smaller, I'm waiting for them to tell me so... looks like it'll work, IMHO. I wouldn't care at all about having some braid flopping around behind the fairing; I already know I would eventually trim down the braid some.

Doing some Google searching, I think I have found the mfg in China: http://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/High-quality-2015-fanless-led-motorcycle_60187392981.html

Seems to me that it should be possible to build a kit that has an H11 and an H9. Stated power consumption is 40W per 'bulb' which doesn't make a lot of sense when they also say each bulb pulls no more than 1.8 Amps. 1.8 X 12V =22W or so... either way 3000 LM per bulb sounds pretty good to me.

The mfg only offers the retailer a 1 year warranty on their products. I find that a little disappointing on something that is supposed to have a >50,000 hour operating life. A typical working year is calculated at 2080 hours -- this is claiming 20+ years of 8 hour days..... a 1 year warranty? Really? The retailer is giving a 2 year warranty, at least.... I'd like to mix and match my kit to give me a hi beam bulb as well.

This is another option on the same site..... haven't been able to get any more data about it yet. no fans, looks like the back of the bulb is short enough. Works in H11, H8 and H16 sockets with no mods. 9 Watts power consumption.

I've been looking at those bulbs as well in the op. I'm emailing a supplier from alibaba to see if I can get a "sample" bulb to try out haha. We'll see how that turns out. I just want to run some test to see if its actually work dropping the $130ish to get them stateside.

I really want to make the switch on the 6r because I was very impressed with the improvement the LED headlights made in my truck.

And I kind of just want to try something different from the typical HID kit that everyone else has.

If you do end up getting a set, keep us in the loop as Im sure we're not the only ones trying to convert.

I would really like to hear from 40Acres on how far back the LEDs with fans stuck behind the headlight housing.....

The response from the supplier:

"Robert,

1.The H11 LED bulb base extends about 7/8” of an inch from the back of the bulb. The heatsink itself is about 3 inches long but it is a flexible copper mesh so you can adjust it.
2. The other item you are referring to is the LED driver for the bulb.
3.H11 and H9 would use the same LED bulb. There are differences in halogen but with these LED’s they would use the same bulb.

Thanks,

John"

Did you figure these lights out yet?
I haven't pulled the trigger on this. Probably not until the fall.
wHY NOT JUST DO PLUG N PLAY ?
wHY NOT JUST DO PLUG N PLAY ?
Who are you asking, and what specifically is it you want to plug and play?
wHY NOT JUST DO PLUG N PLAY ?
The LEDs are plug and play. But as which ones will fit is the question. 40 tried some on, they fit but the back hit the forks.
oH my bad .. .. i am still learning myself !
