Has anyone here ran a 19x20 master cylinder with 07-12 zx6r calipers? I've found a pretty smokin deal on one but I'm a little unsure about pulling the trigger on it. I'd hate for it to be a waste.

Add SS lines and you can almost stop time.

From everything I've read, they're excellent. The Accosto you apparently cannot get parts for if you break it or wear it out, the Brembo you can.

You're going to get improved braking feel, but it's really only 'worth it' if you're running advanced group pace on the track.

I don't agree with the last statement. If you consider "worth it" meaning the difference between places in a race, then even advanced group track day riding wouldn't rate the cost. But if you can feel and appreciate the difference in how fast a well set up braking system can slow you down, and spending the $$ doesn't prevent you from feeding your children, then who cares what group you ride in and what the cost is?

It blew my mind when I added the Brembo RCS and Nissin calipers - I had no idea that brakes could work like that and I'd never want anything less now, even though I'm "only a B guy".

I myself, am a lowly street hooligan, and my brake system has saved my ass a handful of times from smashing into people pulling out in front of me or changing lanes on me. I'm on a 2010 so I had the Nissin calipers already, but I added SS lines, and the Brembo and the feel was so much better, but it did make my warped rotors more apparent so I put new rotors and pads all around this weekend and the feel is even more amazing.

To each their own; I realize it's much more personal preference than I made it sound. I guess I'd re-word it like this:

If your brakes are preventing you from running your best lap time, or preventing you from riding confidently on the street, better components can improve that. If you are not yet using your current system to it's potential, you may spend the money and not notice any real improvement. To me, if I'm not taking advantage of the improvement, it's not worth it.

I read through that. There's some good advice in there but was hoping to hear from someone that has ran a 19x20 master cylinder. Doesn't really matter now though. My smokin deal is gone. It was on Amazon for $100. They only had one left and someone else snatched up before could make up my mind.

Shiiiiiit! For that much you should've bought it first and then ask the question! :D...if nothing else, you could've sold it on forums for more since it's brand new and get your money back! I saw a used one on the WERA forum for $180 yesterday and thought that was a decent deal. It's a 19x18 though.

I still don't know what the size of the stock MC is on the '09-'12. I haven't been able to find out that info. I'm guessing it's a 16mm diameter, but don't know for sure.

Again, just for the sake of information. How it was explained to me was that the Accosato 19x20 is the exact same thing as the older Brembo 19x20 before they released the RCS line. It is a fantastic MC that will do more than 99% of the riders out there need. Whether you 'need' one or not I leave entirely up to you =).

Does that mean it has a 1.0 thread pitch for the banjo bolt instead of 1.25 like the stock one and most non-Brembo MC's?

When I initially started looking at possibly getting an aftermarket MC, I had to consider the additional costs involved besides the cost of the MC. I use a brake pressure sensor connected to my XT data logger and the sensor mounts using an adapter that connects the sensor to the MC. If I go with a Brembo MC that has a 1.0 pitch, I'd have to get a new adapter and that's $100 if I recall correctly. Then I'd have to also get another lever most likely.

I think for now I'll be sticking to the stock one. Just don't feel the need to spend that much money on something that probably won't make my lap times much faster. Although I'd still like to get a different pivot pin for the levers I got from you to reduce the engagement travel of the lever. Didn't you say you were getting some new ones made a while back? Any update on that?

If it's new you should buy the m/c which should have the lever with it; your options are long lever, or folding lever. Brembo does make a short lever, too. Frankly, once one has gone with a quality folding lever one wouldn't go back to either short or long. You get the added leverage of a long lever, and the accident survivability of a short lever.

Also, I would seriously give E.D.R. a ring: (503) 672-7223. These folks will have ≈ 3, maybe 4 dozen bikes in their shop on any given day. And they do a tonne of Italian bikes: Ducatis are a dime a dozen, MV Augustas, they'll have one in the show room, Aprilia are a common sight. What that means to you is they have a tonne of experience with Accessato, Brembo, Beringer, and Gale Speed, and O.E.s. They worked closely with the late Michael Czysz and his motorcycle programmes. In other words, they really know their stuff.

I know, but then I'd have to buy a matching clutch lever because I'm OCD like that and I like symmetry! :D...I have gold levers from MSM (PSlo), so I'd either keep the folding lever it comes with and then get a black matching lever for the clutch, or I don't use the lever the MC comes with and keep it as a spare and then get another gold lever from PSlo that fits that MC. And along with the sensor adapter if Accossato uses the same thread pitch as Brembo....equals more money.

The stock Nissins are adequate to get the bike off the showroom floor, and that's about it. Too harsh? Only a little. Even the stuff found on a comparable litre bike is usually better than what's found on the average SS.

My dad to preach the gospel of always using the best tires, the best motor oil, and the best brakes possible.... Because they are quite literally the only things that keeps your butt off the tarmac. One who assumes that aftermarket brakes are not worth their steep buy-in is most probably talking from a lack of personal experience. But to be fair, when up grading a system, one has to realize that one component only often does not do the trick. Brakes are most especially true of this notion. Brake systems need to have a package of upgraded m/c, upgraded rotors, and upgraded pads & lines to get the maximum benefit. Once one has experienced the sublime stopping, along with the drastic reduction of the time/speed quotient will always champion their need .

well FYI I can match levers for the Brembo RCS line...I just cant do the old Brembo or Accosato MCs. I don't know if that helps you at all.

I was in the exact conundrum you faced when I bought my Gale Speed m/c. My solution was perhaps a little extreme: I bought the matching clutch perch. And man, am I glad I did, because it has erased the 636's inability to locate neutral as I came to a stop. It has eradicated the occasional false neutrals I had if my shifting was not "boot up the butt" sure. Clutch work is like 'bud-dah'.

As an aside, I bought new full floating Brake Tech AXIS Cobra rotors... front and rear. O.E. is only semi-floating front, and the rear are solid. Core Moto brake lines (f & r), and new brake pads and Motul synthetic fluid.:BigGrin

Any one wanna buy my gold/green levers? Make me an offer and they just might be yours.... If you need a slightly used O.E. Nissin m/c send me a PM, and make an offer. The clutch has a lovely black & green adjuster @ the lever, again PM me and make and offer. I also have the rotors (front & rear), make an offer. A new clutch switch is included. Super easy install. Even the clamp is hinged with one Allen type bolt. It is exactly the same on the m/c size as well.

The only 'hitch', as it were, is that the blades on the new Gale Speed were slightly too wide to go into the female O.E. side. So a couple swipes on my belt sander took care of that, voilà! Very simple, very clean project.

The one I have are the 32-34mm clutch perch kit, pt #29000109; and the VRC variable adjustable master cylinder, pt #W-WCY-06R6-28, 17mm with 18-16mm, both come with the folding levers.

Graves Yamaha use and sell Gale Speed. They are the Yamaha factory race team in the U.S.A.

Galespeed VRC Variable lever Ratio Control Mastercylinders

I think unless you have a prior relationship with Graves you would get a little more "luv" from E.D.R. Performance, (503)672-7223.

EDR Performance

Ask for Anton, tell him Mark with the green '15 ZX-6R that he sold the m/c & clutch perch to sent you. And just ask him what kind of deal he can do for you (esp. if you buy both). Ask him why they recommend the Gale Speed VRC over the Brembo RCS. They carry/sell both brands. And as I've said elsewhere, they build a tonne of luscious race/hi-per street bikes.

The only "sticky wicket" is that Super K use a goofy brake light switch unlike brands H, S, &Y... and even Ducati & Apilia... even Husqvarna dirt bikes! So you need a double hole banjo bolt with the switch built in it for the m/c.

Sorry for the nearly identical post, I blame it on a lack of caffeine. I'm really not very civil until I've had at least 2-cups.
