Hey guys. I'm back with another question. I got what I think was a pretty good deal on a set of stock 09 forks with ohlins nix 30 cartridges installed and an ohlins ttx rear shock.

It looks as if the forks are the correct showa BPF externals and correct ohlins caps for what I was supposed to get for my 2011 ZX6R.

The rear shock is where the issue comes in. It has model number of KA 6390 stamped. I took it to ohlins USA today to have it re-sprung for my weight and the fellow told me the model was KA 639 and it was for 2007/2008 ZX6R but may still work but he didn't know for sure. Do you guys think this shock will work on the 2011 model? Thanks for any input.

I have an Ohlins KA 639 on my ‘12 track bike it it fits and works without issue.

05+ zx6r shocks are interchangeable. A few exceptions with Ohlins but should be fine.

Another question Duc995, I'm just getting back into sportbikes and am wanting to start doing track days next year. No plans of racing, so I'm wanting to keep my bike streetable as well. I'm just learning about aftermarket suspensions. Since you own this shock, do you think it is suitable for some street use as well? Or should I throw on the OEM if I want to do some street riding and use the Ohlins primarily for track use.

Its great for the track when dialed in and great for the street either way.

The only issue I can imagine would be if you wanted - for street use - the shock to be significantly softer for pothole absorption? I don’t ride the street anymore, but I can imagine the race setup might make street cruising less than comfortable. If your shock is like mine and has the remote hydraulic preload adjuster, at least you’ve got that way to quickly soften your setup somewhat.

Ok. I think I can see that. I got the shock on today. It is sprung to the stock spring rate which was 29/90, which was recommended for me by ohlins for me being 165lbs without gear. It feels really stiff. I was looking and the collar that holds the hydraulic preload adjustment is showing 7.5 mm of thread above it. Should it be like that or should I take the shock back off and remove the remote from the reservoir so I can thread it back off all the way? Does that make sense? Here is a pic of the threads. Should it be here or can I back it off til it makes contact?

I would dare to say that what Ohlins recommends is where it should be. The faster you go the better it will feel - at least at the track! If you were to remove the hydraulic preload adjustment collar you would have to obtain an aftermarket adjustment collar to replace it. https://traxxion.com/product/shock-preload-collar-pc-o-ttx/

I don't want to remove the collar, just want to know if I can tread it out more. It looks like there is preload added into it that can't be controlled by the remote. Is it ok to remove that preload or should there be that much thread showing above the collar

Sorry...I don’t know. Sounds like a good question for the Ohlins guy!:smile. The manual for the shock recommends 13 mm preload to the initial setup of the shock spring.
