07 valve gasket leaking

2177 Views 9 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  40acres
Hey gentlemen, my 1st post here. Iv got an 07 zx6r and i understand that the 07 and 08 models had a recall due to valve (tappit) covers leaking oil and causing it to piss out all over the left fender, well mine did, so i called my nearest dealer (230kms away) and they told me there was nothing on recall for my bike. So took it to them for a service and to get the gasket replaced. Now iv done a few 100 kms and the gasket is pissing oil again:headbang: now im going to phone these idiots in the morning and give them abit of stick but what really grates me is the distance i have to travel for this shit and the time and money im going to have to waist taking my bike there. Any sugestions on what my options are or what i can tell them to do to avoid this happening again. Thanks

And I will fix this with just one reply and you can thank me later:devious

Dealerships don't want to fix stuff for free, they want your money so most will plead ignorance and that is why you need to show them the actual service bulletin. Send the following email, word for word along with the two attachments and they will fix it for you. Keyword, this is NOT A RECALL but a FACTORY AUTHORIZED REPAIR on an AS NEEDED BASIS ONLY.

"Hello,

I live in *insert city/province* and you guys are the closest authorized Kawasaki Dealership that I am aware of. I have a 2007 ZX6R and it is leaking some oil oil and I found out that this is a known issue with the '07/08 ZX6R bikes and that Kawasaki has a factory authorized repair for this issue. It is not a recall but a factory authorized repair for bikes that leak. After contacting Kawasaki and playing tag for a week, they finally said that any Kawi dealership would do the service for free and that Kawasaki covers the fees. I have the technical service bulletin sent to me by Kawasaki after contacting them. It is attached below

Thank you for your time,

Jinja Ninja"

How much did they charge you when you took it to them to supposedly get fixed? I would also want my money back since they should have done it for free.

Tsk..tsk...Burnt Toast...tell em why you mad bro! :rant

OP: as many others stated this repair should be a Kawi factory approved repair that any and all authorized Kawi dealers have to make good on....

Maybe contact Kawi directly to get it sorted out :O
Yeah the dealer by me did it for free without even putting up a fuss at all.

Which most won't. It's not like they're doing the work for free. The dealer will perform the authorized repair and then Kawasaki reimburses them for the labor cost and part.
iv already paid for it including my service wich was R2835 about $242. So im not going to pay for it to be fixed again i just dont want to take it all the way to them again for it to bomb out in another +-400 kilometeres. Just really pisses me off

Did you read what I wrote lol. Send them an email with the picture showing that Kawasaki did, indeed, order a factory authorized repair for any and all bikes leaking oil. When they email and confirm they will do it for you, then you go.
Will definetly send that through before i go again! Thank you sir!!
You also want to remind them to order the newer gasket. Hopefully they didn't just happen to have the older model gasket (that was a faulty design) and slap it on your bike. That would be the only reason I can think of that would cause it to leak again in that short of a time span.
