My son bought this bike used with 30k mi on it. He ask me to help him check / adjust valves. After disassembly following the Clymers repair manual I discovered that when I line up the gear at pick up coil ( 1-4 lined up with case mark) and visually confirming that the cams have been rotated to read (markings on cam gears left to right on right side of bike if you were sitting on bike) (In. Ex). (In. Ex). With a white dot next to the first In. And the last Ex. Since the motor is in the bike it is difficult to count the rivits on the cam chain between the marks but I believe it is 28 as the repair manual states. With these conditions I confirm that the No. 1 piston (Farthest cylinder to the left) is indeed at TDC. The problem is that it is not the compression stroke and in this state I cannot check the valves as stated in the manual! I hope someone can help me understand what the problem is. Thanks in advance.
