Just got hold of a 2001 ZX6R and the thing doesn't seem to be charging. It finally warmed up enough to get the bike out of the garage so I fired it up in the driveway and let it warm up. It made it about 8 minutes then died spontaneously. The lights and guages were still working and the you could hear the starter relay clicking but the starter itself wasn't spinning the motor over. So I hooked the bike up to the battery off another bike's battery (new last season) and checked the voltages on it. Just idling it was running roughly 12V but within a few minutes it was down to 10.3V. When I brought the RPM's up, the charge would go up to 12 or closer to 13V depending on how much it was revved but then dropped right back down to around 10V. So it's charging some but not enough to maintain the battery charge idling.

SO. Is my stator going out or do I have a wiring/short issue? And if it's the stator, can that be cleaned or does it just need to be replaced?

Bikes don't charge at idle mate, they charge at 3-5rpm and on.
