2019 ZX6R from Germany

Hello everybody, my name is Chris and Im from Germany.
I work on motorcycles for a living, Im a trained motorcycle mechanic.

I recently bought a black 2019 ZX6R 636, which already has been slightly modified
After I sold my track spec Daytona 675 R in 2017, I wanted to go back on the supersports. At the moment Im still breaking in the engine, 100 miles left to go. Im planing on going back to the racetrack with the 636, but only a couple days this year. Maybe next year I will go for a full track build, we will see

Here are a couple pictures of my ZX6R. As you can see I already swapped the exhaust for a SC Project GPM2 from the previous model, removed the exhaust servo, swapped the original rear axle nut to a titanium one, mounted Ohlins steering damper kit + GB racing engine covers and did a tail tidy.
Next to come is to remove the charcoal filter and mount braided brake lines directly from the master cylinder to the caliper, to cancel the ABS.

As for now, Im totally happy with the ZX6R, it has lots of potential. You can actually compare the engine to the 675 triple, it has also low and midrange grunt and a nice linear powerband.

Congrats. Im looking into a new 2018.

It certainly has big shoes to fill. The Daytona is close to perfection, but with a price to go with it.

Im living in Albstadt, which is 60 miles south from Stuttgart.
The good thing is, that the Black Forest with its endless twistys is not far away

Definitely, it was really hard for me to sell my Daytona back then. I really liked this bike and I was quite fast with her on the track. I did the build myself, the only thing I didnt do was the tune on the dyno.

Also she was putting down honest 124hp at the wheel, that was also impressive for a stock engine.
But she had always some issues, nothing major, but always something.

What I already like about the ZX6R is the stability under hard braking. There was always lots of movement from the rear with the Tona, the ZX6 is way more stable. Which I can use to trailbrake even harder into a turn.

I still miss the Daytona a little bit, but Im also very excited how the ZX6R performs on the track.

That was my Daytona:

Well, diagnostics without having the motorcycle to work on is always tricky.

First Id start with the clutch, could be that the clutch is not 100% disengaging. Disassemble the clutch and look for marks in the clutch housing/hub or a worn pull rod. Also it could be anything from the gearshift shaft to the shift forks and last but not least, the gears itself.

After the clutch i would inspect the whole gear change mechanism. Starting with the gear change drum "star", I mean the star shaped thingy which sits on the shift drum, youll get to it by disassemble the clutch, it sits behind it. Also there could be wear on the part of the gear change shaft which operates the drum star. Also look for the springs, sometimes they get loose over time or even break.

If anything looks fine until now, youll have to pull the gearbox, luckily the ZX6R has a cassette type gearbox, so no need to tear down the engine. Then inspect the shift forks for wear, look for wear / marks in the grooves of the shift drum and look for wear on the dog cluches.
