As long as you keep an open mind you'll get as much support and advice as you could ask for. Good luck with your bike.

I did the deal.

I changed out the oil and filter, going to flush the coolant and brake fluid as well. Bike seems to be okay. I can hear the CCT so I think I'll have to get that checked out.

As it stands, the bike is currently out in my driveway with the right side fairings off, as my friend lowsided it on some gravel . So the sdies are kind of scraped up, and the mirror broke. He bought new mirrors for me that are coming tomorrow, and I'm looking to see what I can do to get it painted. I don't believe anything mechanically was damaged.

There is an oil leak on the left side, which I believe may be the valve cover gasket, but the recall was done on it in 2010, but I heard that they go bad again, so I'll have to look at that.

Other than an oil leak and the CCT... I think it's okay.

Cold idle sound
Warm idle sound

Rear tire is in okay condition
The owner took off the lever guards
no power commander
yes there was oil in the bottle.
the oil level was a little low, I have done an oil change.
I will change the airbox/air filter like you suggested
yes the chain was dirty, minor rust spots. will change next season.
will do all fluids because winters coming and I live in Nebraska

Yes. This is why I directly quoted him with the picture and stuff. I'm jealous and I wish I had his knowledge.

I understand it may have been a bad deal. This gives me a chance to use the power of a 600, as well as learning how to fix potential issues. Life goes on guys, it's okay. It's a learning experience.
I have to ask the stupid question.

Why was your friend riding your motorcycle?

That's like letting another dude fuck your girl.

Asking another question that could easily have a long term affect on your life...... is there any chance you have insurance?

LOL...I don't think it's quite like that. Maybe if it was like a Ducati Superleggera or something more unique and very expensive

I've let some people ride my bikes, but pretty much only at the track and only people that I really trust to not do something stupid. Others have let me ride their bikes as well for the same reason. Now that I think about it, I've ridden bikes on opposite ends of the spectrum. Some banged up ninja 300's, then an RSV4 Factory, and a 1299S Panigale

I don't think I would let a friend who doesn't really know what he's doing ride a bike that I just bought and take it out on some shitty roads.

Maybe not fucking. Fingering?

My bikes are ridden by me, and people who are providing mechanical advice...

Judgment of who is capable of riding a bike is really not going to be in the OP's wheel house for some time..... there is no discrimination available to someone who has no experience to use as a yardstick.

The learning curve is going to be steep on this..... so much better to figure this stuff out in the dirt.

Hi Ey3, I've got some great mechanical advice for you, but first you must let me ride your race bike, all good?

I have neither a mechanical issue nor a race bike at this time.

And he's got a KLR. You really don't want to ride that anyway

I guess I just have a bit more trust in people, but like I said...it's all based on whether I think that person is good enough and mature enough to not do stupid stuff. In fact, there are probably a handful of people on this forum that I would allow to ride my bikes despite not knowing most of them, but based on their history and comments on here, I'd be comfortable with it. I've only met 2 people on here in person I think, and one isn't active anymore since he's getting rid of his zx6r.
